Stuhoo Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Both Zagoria and Slater reporting that UK assistant Kenny Payne is close to leaving for a job with the Knicks, and that his likely replacement at UK would be Bruiser Flint. Bruiser got his start with Calipari—he’s a Calipari buddy through and through and didn’t know Archie when he started at IU. Bruiser is by all accounts a good guy, but would he be especially missed? Discuss... Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Meh. We really need an X's and O's and/or talent developer on the bench. We just haven't had that. From Archie down. Quote

Discuss... Short answer...no. From my understanding, he was the “mastermind” of our offense and we’ve seen some of the worst basketball on the offensive side of things at IU in a long time during his time here. I’ll never forget he and Archie going at it during the Purdue game last year, while Archie ripped our offense and Bruiser clearly trying to defend it. I know many don’t like Dan Dakich but DD never thought highly of Bruiser and said he was the only staff member that wouldn’t even acknowledge him and would stand at the practice with his hands in his pockets for the entirety of the practice.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Brass Cannon Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 From what I have heard he’s been in charge of the front court while ES was in charge of the guards. Considering our front putt has been the only good part of our team 3 years running. Will be a bad hit. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 If Archie likes him and wants him, it’s a hit. He seems like a type of guy that recruits really like. That’s a hit. Calipari snipes him, that’s a hit. X’s and O’s? Meh. I can’t measure this fully, and without knowing his replacement, it’s hard to judge. Don’t love it, but would be interested to see what we can do with the position. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 Great chance to upgrade our staff. Missed only if his replacement is a flaming dud. ElectricBoogaloo and BGVille Hoosierfan 2 Quote
Bigred3588 Posted August 10, 2020 Posted August 10, 2020 I'd be more concerned if he were promoting to HC somewhere. The fact that its a lateral move has me thinking it wouldn't be too big of a deal. Quote

Napleshoosier Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 We want more intro’s to Indiana kids? Lol. Well we know they don’t have the stock in that state. JmoSent from my iPad using BtownBanners Quote
Honkyman Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 This is total speculation. It is speculation there will be an opening on Cal's staff. Speculation that he would hire Bruiser (just because they worked together and are supposedly "close" doesn't mean Cal--who will have the ability to hire almost anyone--will hire Bruiser, who would be an average hire at best for Cal), and speculation that Bruiser would leave IU. We should probably wait until the first domino falls before we worry about who IU might hire to replace Bruiser. Quote

Just a veteran assistant who ran things by Archie or helped with some in-game situations. Also, a nice guy who enjoyed a good glass of wine around Bloomington. HoosierDYT Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 I think this is an excellent opportunity for Archie to make a splash hire, albeit I have no clue who. It sucks to lose Bruiser, but hopefully it’s a sign that as a program we’re headed in the right direction. At least it wasn’t Ostrom imo. My main is concern is hoping UK doesn’t enter the Kaufman sweepstakes now Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote

Wouldn’t mind getting somebody with stronger AAU ties tbh Quote

You won't find another trainer who does more for a program than him. Olstrom is a good recruiter but he is replaceable ElectricBoogaloo, thebigweave and Class of '66 Old Fart 3 Quote
