HoosierAloha Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 The one thing about Al is I hope going forward he is more vocal and more assertive. We need energy and he is the one player in UM game in that small stretch where started going at others. We need someone to challenge them other than the coaches. Usually it’s your point guard or star player. We don’t have that luxury this year. No upper classmen will listen to a freshman in that regard. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appAl can definitely be a starting point but we need it from more than just Al. I’d like to see Phin become more assertive, as well. Next year will be interesting, our upperclassmen will be Green and Davis, if they’re still playing or around, Durham, Smith, and Moore. Al and Phin could definitely step into leadership roles among those players. Right or wrong, I don’t see Green’s attitude changing. Davis has been riddled with injury and hasn’t played much. Moore is a role player seeing very few minutes. Smith seems to be the type influenced by those around him. Al taking on a bulldog mentality could help a lot. Phin stepping up and taking the reigns with Morgan and Romeo gone could speed things along too. I said a few years ago the team would either take on the mentality Hartman and a few others or be led by Troy and a few others. One would lead to a good season and the other not so much. We all know how that turned out. I think it’s almost as important for Al and a Phin to take over the team this summer as it was back then. Smith needs to jump on board. I was a senior at the time and thought it was dumb to pull Roth's Scholarship, but my friends insisted it would be better overall for the team to bring on a freshman that can contribute for four years than it was to waste it for one year on Roth.. Hindsight is 20/20 in his case. Would have loved his shooting against the Syracuse Zone. I think we still would have been over the limit if Ron Patterson had passed his summer school classes. Man, Crean's roster management was brutal. Quote

Frustration would be an understatement but I'm not sure what a better word would be. Clearly the season thus far has not gone the way that was expected. It's not just the losses but how we've played in those losses. I can't fathom any IU fan who isn't feeling frustration and even anger. cthomas, sweetpain, ALASKA HOOSIER and 2 others 4 1 Quote
yogisballin Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I went back and watched the first half of the Michigan game. Why Damezi, Moore and Jake isn’t even getting a shot is beyond me. Yeah, I know defense is their weakness. I get it. But have you watched our starting 5 on defense lately? Romeo and Juwan aren’t that much better. Looks like pine time would be a motivation for some. This may not be a tool CAM likes to use though?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Rico 1 Quote

I've just accepted it for what it is. Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Earlier in the season I was not in the “why aren’t Moore or Jake playing” camp as I figured Archie had his reasons due to how they practiced etc. Recently, however, I have joined the “play-them” camp as the team has failed to give 40 (or 20) minutes of effort game after game after game. I think we were down 20 or so with 5 minutes to go and he still played McBob etc instead of giving those guys a few minutes. I don’t get it. You would have also thought he would have given them a few minutes in the first half just to let the starters know he was pissed that they decided to sleep-walk again at the start of the game. JSHoosier Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Moore/Forrester can't get minutes over a scrub like Fitzner even during a blowout. Do they look Peter Jurkin level bad during practice or what? yogisballin 1 Quote

Bowhunter Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I think AL Durham could be on the good side of Crean’s lower rated recruits. Just because there were Tijan, Jurkin, Minuri type projects, doesn’t mean Durham couldn’t turn into a success story like some of Crean’s diamonds. I’m not giving up on him because he does have skill and gives the effort. I can see him being a big part of our team going forward. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners I think Al is a quintessential four year player for those that want the roster to be a combo of four year players and one/two year 5 stars. He seems like a great guy, emotionally invested, cares about winning, plays as hard or harder than his teammates and has worked a lot on the areas of his game (ie shooting) that needed improvement. Hope he continues to improve and has a great career. mookied39, RatpigHoosier, HoosierAloha and 4 others 7 Quote
