I think people are liking it right now because it’s novel. Personally, I don’t think it will be as exciting down the road and it gets rid of those special buzzer beating moments.

it has it’s merit for sure and I can understand why people like it, I just don’t see how it improves the game besides the last minute or 2 of fouls. Teams have won games like that before and it takes away that opportunity.

A downfall is that it puts any decent lead pretty much out of reach.

It's certainly got its attraction, but no more buzzer beaters.
I'd have to see it in real college bball games to truly know if I liked it.

Agreed. The intention is good, but I struggle to envision it in March Madness. That being said, I've only watched it twice and I'm very willing to give it a large sample size. I could feel differently if I were to see it on a larger scale and in a raucous hoops/fan environment.

As long as we don't start advancing the ball on timeouts....

Really I think it would result in more comebacks. No clock to worry about just play D

Decourcy says it better than I could

I'll add with this rule we could go from having 4 min left in the game to the game being over in 65 seconds because they reached a certain score? Sounds stupid to me

Let me add this thought about buzzer beaters.

Every single game, every one will have a winning basket or shot.

It makes the final play exciting even in a blowout game.

Plus you will have ‘buzzer beater’ type shots in close games that are decided by less than 3 points.

Saying this rule is stupid is merely uneducated. This system has tons of merit. I’d suggest looking into it before calling it stupid.

I’m not saying I want college hoops to go to this but I think it’s worth looking into further.

My biggest change would be adjusting the starting time. (First stoppage under 4 minutes left) is too much time imo.

I’m thinking under 2. Games may be slightly longer but that’s okay. Those last 2 minutes will be the hardest played basketball all game every game.

I have no problem with them doing this in basketball tournaments during the summer but I would have a hard time adjusting to it in the college game. Having a clock for 90% of a game and then say the last whatever minutes doesn’t have a clock seem difficult for me to get behind. I’ve seen the data and purpose of why they do it I just don’t personally care it. Yes every game would technically end on a buzzer beater but the suspense of the clock running down and pressure in that moment is gone. Also basically no more half court shots to win games. Gordon Heyward’s almost shot going in against duke would of never happen.
If people have a chance watch the final 10 minutes of the game below and all the OT in it. Now imagine that game with 4 minutes left in regulation they set a score and play it out

Yeah I have watched quite a few TBT games. I can see value in the Elam system I just prefer the current structure. There was one game where the I believe CWat was on against Boeheims Army there was a double digit lead. They got it down by fouling a 30% foul shooter. So there is still strategy to be had and finality in games where a team has to finish. I personally prefer the clock winding down with a college atmosphere with the ability to make a memory. If every game ended on a shot we don’t have Keith Smart. We don’t have CWat due to the point system. Honestly I dont know that we win those games. It changes the dynamic.

That isn't funny!  He beat my Raiders way too many times when he was with Denver!

Forget that. I've watched pirated cable with better clarity than this. As for the Elam ending, I'd like to see it in the CBI, CIT, or whatever tertiary postseason tournaments before its even proposed for NCAA games or tourneys.
