As a reminder to all:
Last summer this board was generally shocked, astounded, and overjoyed with the speed, seeming ease, and early start that the IU staff showed in assembling one of the top ten classes in the nation. That class had commitment dates of:
  1. Race Thompson, July 17th (for the 2017 class)
  2. Damezi Anderson, July 17th
  3. Jerome Hunter, July 17th
  4. Robert Phinisee, August 19th
  5. Jake Forrester, September 19th
In Florida, we call the months of July, August, and September "prime hurricane season."
For IU's formation of this class, these are also the prime months; August and September should be at the apex of the bell curve.

And some are starting to panic this year already

This could be a backup option to Brooks/Watford. Look for Liddell to possibly get an offer soon i've seen IU connected to him recently a few times.

Liddell’s newest schools

A quick note here on North Carolina, Duke and Indiana in regards to E.J. Liddell.

While on this road trip, I interviewed some KU recruiting priorities to help out their beat writers at our paper. Before you nail me to a cross, some of those gave me good insight that I’m using now.

Josh Green, a consensus five-star recruit, said Roy Williams told him he only offers scholarships to six to seven kids a year because North Carolina is well, North Carolina. I’d be stunned if the Tar Heels offer Liddell. Simply too many guys in front of him as of right now.

Duke is a strong possibility. Assistant coach Chris Carrawell replaced Jeff Capel on Coach K’s bench, after Capel got hired at Pittsburgh. Carrawell is from St. Louis and played at Cardinal Ritter. He has strong ties to the area and landing Liddell would be a good way to impress his new boss.

At the same time, the Blue Devils are in good with blue-chip recruits like Isaiah Stewart, Vernon Carey and Matthew Hurt. I’d be surprised if Duke doesn’t get some combination of those three. I think Liddell is behind those guys and even if he does get an offer, would he want to go into a situation like that?

Indiana is also recruiting Keion Brooks, an in-state kid who has similar game to Liddell and plays the same position. He can change the situation there.

An offer from any of three schools could alter Liddell’s recruitment but the guys in front of him have just as much, if not more influence.

All I know is okay, Archie had a nice class this year and he was able to keep three recruits year prior but we got to stack good recruiting classes one on top of the other. I just don't know about this year's class yet. Hopefully with some really good success on the court this year that will help the 20/20 class or maybe some late commits from the 2019 class

I've been high on him since his name first surfaced during last season as a back up plan for our number 1 choices. He is a very good player

I’ve seen Liddell multiple times. He is no backup option. If the kid wants to come, you take him and run. Love him.

I have to think an offer is coming. No guarantees in recruiting so can't hang the hat on Brooks/Watford and others. This guy is being heavily looked at by Duke. That tells me something since they have been cleaning up on recruiting the past few years. Coach K said something to the effect of he has improved as much as anybody in the last year. His ranking is likely to jump. Would love to have him as well.

Would not expect to land Liddell, OSU is the favorite with Mizzou behind a good distance.

Not sure where the concern is coming from; is there any reason to think IU isn't the favorite for two top prospects in TJD and Brooks? Those two and pretty much any other perimeter player would make a great class. It makes no difference if kids commit now or two seconds before the deadline, they all end up playing at the same time.

EDIT: Duke is most likely gonna end up getting Carey from Miami

They got a top 20 kid committed in Gaffney and he and Liddell play the same position. Before Gaffney committed, Liddell was thought to be an OSU lean. I'm not sure that is the case now?

And the concern is always here on this board the second we miss on a top recruit. I'm not concerned though and I love that Archie is not putting all his marbles on the table for a few players. We have many great options if we miss on some of our top targets. Liddell will be big time player for whoever is lucky enough to land him.

I look at it as a backup plan. I see nothing wrong with that. It doesn't mean the recruiting of Brooks, TJD etc is going sour.
You are correct that OSU is heavily in the lead

The heavy lean from Liddell came after Gaffney committed. OSU views Gaffney as a 3/4 and Liddell as 4/5 who can play together.

That would be a monster class by Holtmann if that happens. Wow.

I think we were all aware of his coaching acumen, but his recruiting has far exceeded expectations. How he recruits will dictate how his career turns out.
