Indiana vs. (9) Wisconsin Game Thread 11/4 12:00PM ET ABC

Recommended Posts

If the university demonstrated a true commitment to the program then they could attract someone. It comes down to if Fred Glass really wants to win and will put in the money to do so. Tom Allen makes less than the Rutgers head coach.

Unfortunately Fred Glass does not make the budget though.

It's hard because IU football generates very little revenue in the scheme of things.  Could we have had Urban Meyer for a  short while?  Yes.   Mistake hiring DiNardo and it was idiotic in a line of recent idiotic decisions by IU administrators since 2000.  (See : Kelvin Sampson, Bill Lynch)   Wilson was a good hire.  He made mistakes that cost him his job, but there is no denying the program is in better shape than when he took over.   Letting Mallory go was stupid, but on paper, Cameron was a good hire and his offenses set records.

Indiana is not a destination job for many coaches.  It is for Allen, and the high school coaches here love the guy.  He'll be able to recruit locally.   If we don't hire a guy like Allen, we have to guess as to who the next up and comer is; hire him, and hope we're right (see : Cameron).  If we're wrong?  We're back to square 1.   At least now, we're on square.....4.   And if we hire the right guy, what are the chances we keep him?  Slim and none.  So we're caught in the middle and I think Allen will be okay.   This team is better by far than it was under DiNardo and Lynch.  It's faster, tackles better, and has blocked much better until this season.

One thing that has been largely overlooked is the loss of a really good line and NFL backs running behind it.   Our best tailback is a freshman our 2-deep line features 3 freshmen and 3 sophomores.   Offensively, we could have a great returning crop, losing only Lagow and Thomas off the current 1st team.  Cobbs is only a junior....I think.  Losing linemen like Feeney really hurt this offense.  The defense is another story, but he's playing lots of bodies.   Indiana has a chance every season to win 5-7 games.  That wasn't true as recently as 2010.  We're never going to be Wisconsin, Ohio State,  Penn State, etc.  Just like Minnesota will never be Indiana in basketball.  Another huge problem is the division we're in.  Not a better one in college football.  I dunno'.  I don't see it as badly as others do, even as I hate losing.

I'll be surprised if we keep it within a few touchdowns. Were decimated by injuries, confidence and moral can't be high, and Wiscy has absolutely dominated us.

Hopefully this shellacking can rejuvenate the team to get wins against Rutger, Ill, and pu to get a bowl game.

I think this picture says “holding, defense, #43”.... but what do I know lol.

This happened all game. I rewound a half dozen times to see if I was just imaging it or if it was really there. Most was obvious you could see in real time. Wiscy went with the "they're not going to call all of them" mentality. IUFB is the whipping boys and will be treated as such until they can prove worthy.

The post above that talked about talent and listed rankings is a little misleading because many of those players are better than that.  Seriously, people think TeGray Scales is really #423 in his class? Covington #3361?  McCray #3415?   That's nuts.  Those rankings mean very little; and while I understand the point of the post, I don't agree with the argument that we don't have talent.

College football teams have 80 or so recruits and the rankings of those recruiting classes is a huge factor.  It is true that Scales, Covington etc are better than their rankings, and that some 4 and 5 stars do not live up to their billing, but rankings absolutely  DO MATTER.  Every year some players underperform while others overperform, compared to their rankings, but when you recruit 80--100 players over 4 years your odds of success are much, much better when you land a number of highly recruited players.  A few years ago a recruiting service looked at the teams in the final college playoff game and every single final 2 teams in the previous 10 years averaged being one of the the best 10 recruiting classes over those past ten years.  Ie..highly recruited classes equaled being in the hunt.

We have some good players but no where near the talent level of the teams in our division.

I agree with everything you just said and yet we are 0-6 in conference play. Toughest division in football, probably. But, man, this has to take a toll on the team. I agree we are much better at 0-6 than in the past, but we are still who our record says we are. I'm willing to give Coach Allen time to show what he can do. It just gets frustrating when we start the season with the "break through" mantra and yet here we are again.

You do not hire guys with no HC experience if you want to compete in a P5 conference.

I know there are exceptions

Hep was one guy actually turning the program around. What did he have HC experience.

At least go through an actual coaching search, instead of just saying "eh, here you go" because you can't be bothered to do you job.

It can’t get much worse at the QB position than it is now

That's not true.  We have two pretty average quarterbacks.  Neither is "bad."  Lagow actually played pretty well yesterday.   There are teams that have it far worse than we do.

I don't like the idea of starting a true freshman at the most important position on the field.

Except that history shows at Indiana with Randle El we can do okay with an athlete like Taylor.  If Ramsey can consistently throw the ball down field, I think he's guy, but if Taylor is better at that skill?  He needs to start.

Remember when Randle El carved up Wisconsin so badly that ESPN called their stadium Camp Randle El? That was awesome.

Reese Taylor is gonna QB Ben Davis to an undefeated state championship. I think Allen has to give him a chance
