Sent from my LGL41C using BtownBanners mobile app yeah most definitely. I think it should be, once you finish high school. You've either have to attend college for 2 years or go to the G-League for 2. just my 5 cents ALASKA HOOSIER and GloryDays 2 Quote
Hoosier Guy Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 For a college football or baseball player to be eligible for each respective draft, said player has to be in college for at least three years. I've never understood why basketball isn't the same. Maybe it finally will be IUBBFan1970 and yogisballin 2 Quote

Old Friend Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 1 hour ago, Magnanimous said: Players should be allowed to go pro whenever they want to. There should be a place for them to play; but young players are damaging to the league because there are VERY few high school kids (maybe 1 or 2 every year) ready for the NBA, so they end up developing there rather than helping there; and so many of the lower level teams can never keep them. Thus, teams like the Timberwolves, 76ers, Kings, etc will end up as developmental teams for those which consistently attract free agents. Kids who come to the NBA out of high school are generally entering their second contract at age 21 or 22; and as we've seen with Noah Vonleh, talented does not necessarily mean "NBA ready" no matter how old a kid is when he gets there. Letting high school kids go directly to the NBA solves the problem on one level and creates more on other levels. I have been a proponent of a true minor league for the NBA similar to those in baseball and hockey, and remain so. Edit : The one and done rule has been horrible for college basketball. I'm glad that's coming to an end, and I hope a true solution can be found that truly takes into account the best interests of kids. Class of '66 Old Fart, Tom White, Hardwood83 and 1 other 4 Quote

Most, if not virtually all professions have requirements to enter them. Using age/experience is a valid one and certainly not arbitrary. If some outside organization (govt) regulates, that is anti-market. Allowing the business (NBA) to set their own rules is the way to go. Besides no one is saying these kids can't go pro in some other country if they want. I disagree with your post...because I think we largely agree. thebigweave 1 Quote

Yogi'sBicep Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 If they want to go, let them. If they don’t want to, they won’t. You can’t hold them back from what they want to do because “they might not develop”. Ultimately, they own the glidepath of their own life. woodenshoemanHoosierfan 1 Quote
