In response to the sneaker scandal and the fact that the last two #1 picks weren't marketing themselves on NCAA tournament teams, Adam Silver is beginning to get the ball rolling on changing the rule.

Should never of been a rule to begin with. Bad news for kentucky. How will cal keep his players eligible. Maybe roy has some tips.

For a college football or baseball player to be eligible for each respective draft, said player has to be in college for at least three years. I've never understood why basketball isn't the same. Maybe it finally will be

You would think that football and baseball players, owners, executives, and etc would all be throwing a fit to have same rules for their leagues. I understand that they are 2 complete different animals but still...

Free market baby! Agree completely.

(I also understand that private businesses can legally and appropriately choose to do the wrong thing and ignore free market principles.)

There should be a place for them to play; but young players are damaging to the league because there are VERY few high school kids (maybe 1 or 2 every year) ready for the NBA, so they end up developing there rather than helping there; and so many of the lower level teams can never keep them.  Thus, teams like the Timberwolves, 76ers, Kings, etc will end up as developmental teams for those which consistently attract free agents.  Kids who come to the NBA out of high school are generally entering their second contract at age 21 or 22; and as we've seen with Noah Vonleh, talented does not necessarily mean "NBA ready" no matter how old a kid is when he gets there.

Letting high school kids go directly to the NBA solves the problem on one level and creates more on other levels.   I have been a proponent of a true minor league for the NBA similar to those in baseball and hockey, and remain so.

Edit : The one and done rule has been horrible for college basketball.  I'm glad that's coming to an end, and I hope a true solution can be found that truly takes into account the best interests of kids.

I disagree, it's not "ignoring" the free market, it IS the free market. Most, if not virtually all professions have requirements to enter them. Using age/experience is a valid one and certainly not arbitrary. If some outside organization (govt) regulates, that is anti-market. Allowing the business (NBA) to set their own rules is the way to go.

Besides no one is saying these kids can't go pro in some other country if they want.

I disagree with your post...because I think we largely agree.

Send the top ten players ( because those are going to be the ones that want to go) and send them to the g league for a year

Top ten? Do you realize how many underclassmen make themselves eligible for the draft every year? What was it this past year? Around 50 or so?
