That's been going on since the 80's when shoe sponsors started making money. There is a reason an Adidas kid stays with Nike or vice versa. You have been marketing it for years. You have talked to reps for years if you are good. You are are making money if you want. Easy to funnel money through non profits and get a tax write off for your troubles. Other ways of course, but this is the way of the handler.

Say what you want about DD but I think this is the big thing. Playing field is going to be a bit more level now

Yep. That is what I was saying earlier. Will be interesting for sure. IMO it will never be 100% clean as long as the OAD rule is in place. You will still have high stake recruiting for results changing talent. This will for sure scare a few.

Maybe this could help to spell the beginning of the end for the abomination that is the "one-and-done" rule.

God, I hope so.

At least temporarily.  As time passes and this case becomes history, if all else stays constant, it'll be back to square one....My guess, in the next 5-7 years.

I think this has been going on for years. My theory is The shoe company’s pay these players or guarantee these players money for going to certain schools. That’s why players like cliff Alexander leave when they’re not ready, because they’re guaranteed money once entering the NBA. I know Nike does it with Kentucky Basketball. They guarantee players money right after they leave there

I've suspected this for quite a while.  It never has made sense to me how beholden some players are to certain brands and schools.  Just too many instances of players making abrupt commitments to BIG name programs.

As for our program, I recall Crean making vague comments about not playing certain 'games' in the recruiting process - I suspect he didn't go in for these shenanigans and was angry because we lost out to others that did.
