IU Hoosier41

Tom Crean Press Tour 2017

Recommended Posts

First off, I listened to this interview as it happened.  I couldn't believe Dan went 40 minutes without a commercial break.  Secondly, Did anybody notice that crean started off very somber and praising towards Dan.  Then sometime around the unfairly fired question, Crean got amped up and started saying "right" after he finished every sentence.  I wish I knew how many times he said "right" in the last half of the interview.  I fell for Crean the snake oil salesman at first in this interview, but then the smart side of me woke up and reminded me of all the BS I've heard the past nine years!  He has to be bi-polar!  So ready for more interviews with Archie.  Ready to move on from the "and....and.... deflections....and....have an edge....crap!"

Calipari's players leave every year, I wonder when he's going to hire a PR firm and start his rebuilding campaign. I honestly wanted to be happy with what Crean did here and wish him the best, but he's coming off as really whiny in all of these interviews imo.

It is hilarious National Media acted like we as fans we shouldn't have expected such high expectations.

Fast forward to now and our new coach and old coach has been on pretty much every podcast or tv show out there, so you tell me if the IU program was still elite. I think that answers the question for us.

We are top 10 in everything $$ wise. And $$ is not everything, but 2 B1G titles and 4 Sweet Sixteens, an elite 8, a Final Four and National Runner up the last 15 years. That isn't earth shattering, but along with our revenue and budgets added we are still easily top 15 in the country which is damn near elite.

I think I heard a poll of some sort yesterday and we finished 6th in the nation for basketball.  Yeah I would say that is elite!  I think I heard it on Q95.

This one? http://btn.com/2017/03/29/ap-releases-all-time-top-100-college-basketball-rankings/

A snack oil salesman he is and he takes no accountability.

Awesome, thanks CC. Interesting to hear about the Georgetown opening. I for one, hope they show interest or even hire him as I think he could be a good fit there. Much easier conference and I think he could do a good job recruiting that area as he's familiar with the east coast from his time here.

I know I'm in the minority here on the board, and I think it was the right time for both parties at the end of this season for Crean to go. But we have to appreciate all that he did for Indiana basketball. IUBB was in shambles when he took the job. Very few "good" coaches would've taken that job, but he wanted that challenge. He took our program, and maybe got lucky with getting Zeller, but took our penalty filled program which was a national laughingstock almost and won two Big Ten titles, and 3 Sweet 16's in 9 years. Obviously that should not be the expectation and I do think that it was time for Crean to move on as he did all he could, but Hoosier fans everywhere should appreciate Crean coming in and bringing us back to respectability, giving us the chance to hire someone like Archie when his time was over. He may have reached his full potential as the coach at Indiana University, but that full potential, and level that he helped bring us back to should make every single Hoosier fan at least somewhat proud of his 9 year tenure.

I just read Temple hired Crean to replace Dunphy. I have not seen on a big name web page yet.

Eh? Marked as April 3rd and saying Crean will have presser on April 4th. Maybe a late April Fool's?

Anyone angry at Crean that when he was coaching us he would not give the media the time of day and now he won't get away from them?

I know several people in the IU media fairly well who are great guys and I know they were beyond frustrated at the lack of access he gave them during his tenure (but I have not talked to any of them since his firing to know if this makes them more aggravated that he is talking so much now).

More than anything as a fan it was very aggravating that every week in Indy you would hear Painter and Holtmann almost weekly on the local radio shows here but Crean refused to come on. Even when he would talk after games he would not always make sense.

With all that said I think Crean is a good man but at times he acts a bit mysteriously and his handling of media was one of the things I will never understand.
