Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 6, 2017 Author Posted April 6, 2017 Too soon to know if CAM will continue his recruiting efforts with Hunter or not. Corey Evans: Xavier is expected in today for four star 2018 Pickerington North forward Jerome Hunter, per source. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 7, 2017 Author Posted May 7, 2017 Quick refresher on Hunter. He had an offer from Dayton while CAM was still head coach and Inside the Hall reported that we watched him at both of the April evaluation periods. He participated this past weekend in the Hensley Run n Slam and this is a post-event summary: 2018 wing Jerome Hunter is emerging as one of the elite prospects in the country . The 6’7 junior displayed a versatile skillset during the Spiece Run-N-Slam that put national media on notice of his talents. Jerome’s performance this weekend at the Run-N-Slam rates as one of the best we’ve seen in 2017. His skillset and versatility from literally any spot on the court is among the tops in the country. Hunter is an elite shooter from beyond the arch, with range out to 26 feet, a quick release and great mechanics. He buried four triples or more in a single game on multiple occasions this weekend. In the post, Jerome showed great footwork with his back to the basket. He made effective use of his pivot foot to get defenders off their feet before converting at the rim with excellent touch around the basket. Hunter also has a plus handle, he showed the ability to change direction with the basketball and is comfortable against pressure defense. Perhaps the biggest revelation this weekend was his court vision, where he found teammates with several dimes in tight spaces for easy buckets. On top of his excellent skillset, Jerome is a very good athlete that displays quick-twitch verticality around the rim. He is fluid in his movements and has a wiry strong frame. While most national recruiting services have Jerome placed in the 80-120 range, he is no doubt a top 50 talent in the country. An athletic 6’7 wing with a great stroke, good back to the basket game, a plus handle, and nice vision, Jerome has the skill and versatility to the play the 2, 3, or 4 spots at the next level. There's a 3 1/2 min. highlight clip at the link below - he's number 21. Pretty decent 3-point shot and seemed to be very comfortable putting the ball on the floor but boy does he look skinny. http://endlessmotor.net/2017/05/07/jerome-hunter-18oh-nova-2017-run-n-slam-highlights/ GloryDays and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 8, 2017 Author Posted May 8, 2017 Another recap from endlessmotor.net on Hunter's performance at last weekend's Hensley Run n Slam. Best Overall Performance: Jerome Hunter (2018/6’7/OH Nova) Weekend Wrap-Up: Hunter was absolutely dominant all weekend long at Spiece. On the perimeter, he displayed an elite shot with range out to 26 feet and a very quick release. He was stellar knocking down threes off pick and pop action and off the dribble. Hunter had multiple games where he knocked down 4+ triples. Jerome played large portions of the weekend on the wing as a playmaker as well, and his vision was a real asset. He broke defenders down off the dribble and found teammates for easy lay-ups and dunks on several occasions. In the post, Jerome was great with his back to the basket. He consistently showed advanced footwork and use of his pivot to get defenders off their feet before scoring with soft touch at the basket. Hunter is certainly a legitimate back to the basket threat that can get buckets as a post-up iso option on the block. Jerome also showed great grab and go ability, there were multiple instances where he obtained defensive rebounds and pushed the ball up the court where he either knocked down threes off the dribble, went coast to coast and finished, or found teammates for lobs. Hunter’s versatility is what makes him truly special, he has the potential to play the 2, 3, or 4 spots at the next level with a great shot, advanced footwork, above average ballhandling and plus athleticism. Stock Prediction: Most national publications have Hunter ranked in the 80-120 range, we think that is a bit low. Jerome has the skill, athleticism, size and versatility of a top 50 player in the country. He will certainly be slotted at that range when the initial Endless Motor Sports rankings are released in June. Recruitment: Current offers from Pitt, Xavier, Michigan, West Virginia, Butler, Ohio State, Illinois, NC State, Dayton, Purdue, Rutgers, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Toledo, Stony Brook, and Wright State among others. Many outlets have Jerome with tentative top group of Xavier, Pitt, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, and West Virginia, but Hunter claims no leaders at this point and is wide open. Popular Post Class of '66 Old Fart Posted June 26, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted June 26, 2017 Hoosier Sports Report The first time Archie Miller offered Jerome Hunter a scholarship was at a Dayton team camp last June. At this past weekend’s Indiana team camp — almost a year later to the day — Miller offered Hunter another scholarship. This time, Miller did so as the head coach of the Hoosiers. Miller’s interest in the four-star Ohio forward has carried over with his new job in Bloomington, and for good reason. IU is the latest Big Ten school to offer Hunter, a highly regarded prospect in the 2018 recruiting class who is generating interest across the conference footprint and beyond. “It’s starting to be that time when you’ve got to start looking to narrow down the list,” said Jason Bates, who coaches Hunter at Pickerington North High School. “It’s really not a late offer from Indiana because it was the same coaching staff (that recruited Hunter at Dayton), but he wasn’t familiar with Indiana and what they had to offer. I think it’s great timing for Indiana to still be in hunt.” Count IU among Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois, Purdue, Penn State and Rutgers as Big Ten schools that have extended a scholarship offer to Hunter. The versatile 6-foot-7 wing also has offers from North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Xavier, among others. At IU’s team camp, which hosted select high school programs from across the state — including Bloomington North and South — and the region, Miller and his staff kept a close watch on Hunter. Hunter impressed in transition and while initiating action off the wing. He also demonstrated a nice jumper from around the arc. Between plays, he was quick to give direction to teammates. “He’s a coach’s dream,” Bates said. “His style, he likes to get up and down. He’s an excellent rebounder, and the great thing about him is he still posts up. The thing about him is he’s got so many tools that he’s got to decide what tool to use at what time.” According to Scout.com, Hunter is considered the No. 61 overall player in the 2018 class, the No. 14 forward in the nation and the No. 3 forward in the state of Ohio. Indiana’s offer follows a recent overture from Ohio State, where new coach Chris Holtmann is also making the in-state forward a priority target for next year’s class. Hunter was among the first wave of new offers from Holtmann, who also recruited Hunter while at Butler. Similarly, Miller’s interest in Hunter didn’t stop with his former job. Bates said Miller has remained in contact with Hunter since taking the IU job in late March. Miller extended the scholarship offer to Hunter on Saturday. “That’s partly why we wanted to come (to team camp), so he could see the campus and get reconnected with the coaching staff,” Bates said. “He loved it. (Miller) has been consistent.” As a junior last season, Hunter averaged 19.3 points and 10.9 rebounds per game, earning Associated Press All-Central second team honors in Ohio’s Division I. Entering his senior year, Hunter’s main challenge will be to improve his ball handling. In the meantime, Hunter already has plenty of skills that have the Big Ten on notice. “He loves to get up and down, and he’s a great defender,” Bates said. “He attacks off the dribble very well and knocks down his free throws. He’s really, really developed well in the last year. He’s just really exploded.” ALASKA HOOSIER, Diadem, IUsafety and 6 others 9 Quote
