This is from an Orlando Sentinel article after Donovan was hired by the Thunder.

"I've always believed you wake up and where you are that day, you do the best job you can," he said. "Then if opportunities open up, they open up. It wasn't anything about having a plan."

He went on to talk about what a unique opportunity it was to coach Westbrook, Ibaka , and Durant, two of which are gone.  Please, please, please........

Here's my thought: At this point I hope Alford gets to the Final Four or farther so either UCLA fights really hard to keep him or I feel a little better about us hiring him with a now improved resume. No matter what Alford is my last choice though.

Hey guys, long time no complain here.

FWIW

Like it or not Alford is the front runner. Because:

Stevens- leaving the Celtics to coach IU would be like leaving Man U to manage Sporting Kansas City. Not happening.

Donovan - good hire but Glass mentioned knowing the state and recruiting the area. Donovan is an east coast guy. Can happen but reading between the lines doesn't have exactly what Glass is looking for.

Bennett - more likely but I hope not. Boring as crap to watch Virginia.

Marshall - verbally abusive version of Crean.

Sean Miller - ain't leaving Arizona for February in Bloomington. Has it made.

Archie Miller - will someone PLEASE explain the fascination with this guy. He doesn't even have the pedigree Crean had. This would be a huge disaster.

IMO that leaves Alford. I say hire him. I think he can do better at IU than he did at other places. HS and AAU coaches around the state are familiar with him. He understands the culture. Once again if you  read between the lines sounds like to me Glass was describing him. Is he the savior? Nope. Heck, he will be gone within 5 years, but I just cant handle another hot mid major guy. Alford is comfortable like an old pair of shoes.

Ok, destroy me now.
