Absolutely agree. Marshall would be fantastic. The other 2 are safer bets because they have proven it at the high major level. If you get to tier 3, you land guys like Archie Miller, who are still an upgrade.

For me the biggest knock on Marshall (not that it disqualifies him) is his age.

The guy has won everywhere he's been. He's been a regular in the tournament at schools like freaking Winthrop and Wichita State. Give him IU's roster this year and I'd bet we'd be approaching 25 wins right now.

He's been to a freaking Final 4 at Wichita State. He's a great coach.

I've noticed that all the articles defending Crean are more about how IU fans have too high of expectations than about how he's a good coach. I actually lol'd when Rosenberg ended the article by calling Crean one of the smartest coaches in the country.

The thing that bugs me with his Canada incident is there is "getting upset" and "completely losing control".  Marshall looked to have completely lost it in that video.  As far as his coaching, I agree with you.  The guy wins.  The deciding factor is how much of a loose cannon is Marshall.  Is he a Class A d*ck or just a Class C?

How is Marshall just a little better than Crean? The guy has won 30 games 4 of the last 5 seasons and has, I believe, 20 conference championships (when you combine regular season and tournament). I think Crean has 3. 

The guys is a winner. If people don't like his age or his temper, I completely get that and have questions myself (Marshall isn't my #1 or even #2 choice), but from a purely coaching standpoint the guy is one of the top coaches in the country.

My gut has been Marshall all along. It'll be interesting.

I'm with Stuhoo, regarding age as my only real deterrent. The attitude thing doesn't bother me so much.

Hearing Glass was spotted at MVC and the whole St. Louis flight stuff got me leaning that way.

I know it's highly disputed that Glass was actually there. I get that. We'll see.

I think he is our most likely candidate at this point.

So saw a post on another site mention that, guys like Cal, Roy, Coach K, and Self all win at a high level, but they also do it with a team full of McD AA's.  They win despite their inefficiencies as a coach.   When you compare what Stevens did at Butler and what Marshall has done at WSU, one would see that those guys have coached their collective butts off to take lesser quality players, WSU has likely no future NBA guys on this years team and yet here Marshall is still just winning again.  4 out of last 5 seasons with 30 wins.  6 straight NCAA appearances.  Everyone likes to rail on him being in a lesser conference, hence it being easier.  Phoooey, that means 2-3 teams tops make it out of the MVC yearly.  Sometimes, just 1.  Where as the BIG can have a mediocre 7th placed team get in.  His teams dominate that conference.  They don't just win by 5 pts a lot of times.  They've got many games with 15-20 point wins.  If it's that easy to win, why aren't others dominating?   His age does not scare me.  He's 54.  By comparison Coach K is 70, Roy W is 66, and Jim Boeheim is 72.   He's got 10-15 years left in the tank minimum.  Go with Archie we might just be Crean 2.0.  Then we've wasted another 6 years+ to get there.  I'd rather go with the proven track record of solid D and team fundamentals over 1 year flash in the pan Elite 8 run any day.

If Marshall can give us 10 good years of being relevant I'll take him I guess. Better always be scoping out talent for the transition after him though.

After the "dream tier" of Steven & Donovan, I'd put Marshall in with S. Miller & T. Bennett as safest hires.  Some of the younger guy may very well end up being superior coaches, but they also have a higher chance to be flops (in a relative sense).  As someone else mentioned, I don't know what Marshall's reputation is as far as his personality and that is important, IMO, for recruiting, assembling a staff, and interacting with the PTB.  That said, I think CTC has a fairly low reputation among fellow coaches and (apparently) H.S. and AAU coaches, so that wouldn't be a step down.

That's the very reason IU fans, and maybe even Glass, are done with Crean! Why is that so hard to understand? These national writers need to realize that this year's failure is just one piece of the entire spectrum.

Tom Crean is about to miss the tournament for the 2nd time in four years. Tom Crean is an awful in-game adjuster. Tom Crean's teams, except for a couple seasons, have been terrible on defense. Tom Crean's teams turn the ball over at a disgusting rate. Tom Crean has never made it PAST the sweet 16 as IU's head coach. Tom Crean OVERRECRUITS. Tom Crean schedules cupcakes. Tom Crean has lost the trust of Indiana high school coaches. The list goes on.

thats one huge thing i cant stand about crean.....how he over recruits every year. and then your sittin there wondering all off season how things are going to work out. what happens if people that dont go to nba that are suppose to. do you force people to leave that you probably shouldnt of offered in the first place?
