TOM CREAN FIRED

I think it's very possible IU could end up dropping down to their 6-8 option. I think we are all a little overly optimistic on who wants to coach here. Just my opinion.

True, but only if y'all have unrealistic expectations as to who options 1-5 are. If any of your options 1-5 are: Self, Stevens, Wright, Donovan, and Bennett?

Start looking at your 6-8th option as the most likely choice.

If your 1-5 options are Marshall, Archie, Hoiberg, Mack, and Jacobsen?

You are much more likely to be pleased that one of your primary choices gets the nod.

Moral of the story: Some of the coaches who are perceived as "primary options" have absolutely, positively no desire to leave where they are; not for IU or anywhere else. And no, an open checkbook will not change that.

But why? I never understand why people say this. If it opens up IU will be the number 1 job opening in the country. And I'll say it again, thanks to what Crean has done there will be plenty of interest. If it's because of fear of the pressure to win then I don't want them at IU anyways.

And THAT is exactly what is is for most!

Most venerable poster Milehiiu on the 247 board is very far from a Crean hater.
He just posted that there is movement toward an amicable split.
FWIW

I remember him from the Scout board. I trust his words.

IU is one of the premier jobs in college, expecting the program to do what it takes to get that level coach isn't unrealistic.  The only debate is if the coach is currently in the NBA, IU is a clear and undeniable upgrade over the likes of Villanova and Virginia.

People act like we're friggin' Purdue.

EDIT:  It's easy to assume this or that coach won't be interested for this or that reason.  Only they know that.  You have to do what it takes to get the top options, period.  Assuming and automatically looking at the second and third tier sounds like a good way to end up with Tom Crean 2.0.

Alright alright, I'll take the job.  I can certainty at least run a Crean offense.   Criss cross the baseline and run a 3 man weave up top.  I'll even be a little more demanding of energy on the defensive end.  I'll get ahold of Glass and let him know I'll take it.  Thread over guys!  Sorry.

Not surprised by the talk of a possible split. I'm sure Glass has already met with Crean to talk about what direction the program is going in.

One would hope so, given the schizophrenic run CTC's teams have been on for the past 9 (OK, the past 6) years. Publicly Glass has repeatedly said that Tom's the guy... but even Crean's mother has to see the situation for what it is.

As far as who... I doubt either Stevens or Donovan would be interested. If they are, great... but I really like Bennett, and see him as the attainable #1 option. After that, Marshall and Archie. From there, it's a crapshoot, IMO.

IU caught lighting in a bottle with RMK, and have failed pretty miserably since. Maybe we're due and the basketball gods will smile on us again.
