TOM CREAN FIRED

Anyone wanna explain why Crean doesn't ever implement some kind of press to create turnovers and get some easy buckets?  I mean we always say we have athleticism and length.   Is it that he just has no clue how to teach it or what?  Love to hear some opinions.

I think anything that involves teaching nuances of the game isn't something Crean would want to do if he didn't have to. It's much easier to just tell your team to play faster.

So be it if that truly was a reason. I think most would laugh at him along the way.

I'm pretty sure no one would laugh at him for wanting to be the next coach of Ohio state if, when Thad Matta leaves. If he's at IU then he obviously can't do that. And as I'm writing this, I see on TV Archie and Matta have a commercial together.

He may be at OSU before we have a chance.

Matta's only 49 years old and has a lot of coaching years left unless a) health; b) burnout/termination; or c) moves up to AD.  Archie Miller could have a very long wait if OSU is his dream job.

Yeah I definitely thought he was 60 something lol. Can't believe he's only 49

No you haven't. Just typical board stuff.

That's what I thought. He's from Pa (granted Western Pa), went to NC St., was an assistant at Arizona. Not sure what ties he has to OSU other than coaching at Dayton in the same state now.

Dude played PG for 4 years at Duke. Was a total defensive stud.

Mike Davis was a defensive stud at Alabama, and was named the team's Mr Hustle for his last two years there.

Translation?  There is no correlation between playing hard and coaching well.

Just looked it up, he was an assistant at OSU for two seasons.

He's also coached at NC St, Arizona St and Arizona.

Sorry for causing confusion. I really thought he was an assistant under Matta for awhile. I've seen some others on the board talking about Archie and Matta having an connection and then I saw the commercial with them two earlier. Maybe I should more research lol

On nights like these, I like to think this scene reflects/will reflect what Glass is dealing with in regards to Crean, with our fans providing the noise:

(Fans protesting in 2014…2015…2016…2017)

Glass: "God, they're still going?"

This is exactly what I told you would happen! Should have fired him 2 years ago. Not much fun anymore, is it?

(2016 Big Ten title; fans applaud)

Glass: "Thank God, maybe they're wrapping it up."

(IPFW loss, Nebraska loss)

NOISE! NOISE! LOUD NOISE NOISE AND A CIVIL WAR CANNON!

(the cannon is probably yet to come)

What do you honestly see that is so appealing at this current time other than him being an assistant coach and playing under Coach K at Duke?  Because that does not make someone a great coach.  I wouldn't want him until he proves he could win as a coach, so I don't think the timing lines up.

I never said anything about him being great only because he is from the K lineage. That's you putting words in my mouth. But the fact that he was an assistant for 15 years at Duke is something I like.

The guy knows X's and O's. He was a 4 year defensive stud at PG and it shows in his coaching style. He is a good motivator. He can recruit. He will get in a guy's face if he isn't hustling or playing defense. I've followed his career. I've watched him for 15 years as an assistant and now I'm his third year as a head coach.

Fanbases and publications all around the country rave about him as a coach and a teacher. I guess you're right though.
