When did Alford build a team that was good enough on offense and defense to win though. Never

Crean hasnt either. The Zeler Olidipo team was not good enough. Fans will argue it was, but the stats dont lie. The defense wasnt good enough. Just like Alords forst UCLA team was close statistically but not good enough  both teams failed in the sweet 16.

The only coach who has consistantly put out offenses and defenses together to win it all, not at a blue blood, is Gregg Marshall. People here dont want him. Bennett is close.

I'm even lower on Chris Collins.

I'd better be reading that wrong.  You'd take Chris Collins before Billy Donovan?  You need your head examined.

Hah NO. Donovan is my #1. I meant Donovan 100 times before Archie..obv

Same question as in regards to Dane Fife but a different scenario obviously:

Would the people OK with Alford be OK with Alford if he didn't play at IU?

Asking for discussion's sake because I'm not really sure how I feel about it.

I've been saying this for a while, they wouldn't. Especially the older fans who don't use Twitter or social media much. They see Alford and think he was a great player for us so he must be a great coach as well. People are stuck in the glory days, forward thinking needs to be applied to this situation if we're ever going to be elite again.

I've mentioned it before, but my biggest thing with Alford is this. I think it's a lateral move, but many people are saying he's better than what we have. So let's say he's "just better" than what we have, to me that's not good enough. The real problem is if we hire Alford and he's only "better than what we have now" he will be here forever. Maybe Alford gets us consistently in the top 5 of the conference again but I don't see him ever bringing a title here and or even being a consistent deep threat in the tourney. If he have put up with Crean this long and we still don't know if he's gone for sure, and Alford gets us slightly better, no chance in hell IU ever fires him. The risk with hiring Alford far outweighs the reward to me. Hire is a lifetime hire and I'm not okay with him as out coach for the next 20 years.

Albeit if it does happen and he proves me wrong I have no problem admitting I was wrong, I will fully support him I just don't see him doing much more than what we have done under Crean.

Of course Crean hasn't which is why he needs to go. So why bring in another guy with the same problems

The latest I have heard, is that Crean has an interview with Mizzou this week. It is also a sign that he is leaving, he was supposed to visit a recruit in Michigan last week, but never showed up, and that isn't like him.

I'm pretty sure that Zeller/Oladipo team was rated pretty well defensively, but fell off big time during Crean's patented February swoon.
