TOM CREAN FIRED

What makes for a "home run" hire? Is there any doubt a guy like Mack couldn't do as well or better than Crean? There are many Mack's out there, just using him as an example. We are top 10 in every category that is of interest to a coach: history, salary, fanbase, facilities etc. compare those things to the Xavier's, Butlers etc and tell me that with those things on their side, they wouldn't do as well or better than Crean. They are already on par with much less support. This isn't a 1 man or bust thing. There are at least 10 guys out there that are performing as well as Crean at schools that offer very little to coaches, players, fans and recruits... So what is the big concern about, I only see upside, worst case we get more of the same

The coaches I'd classify as a sure "home run" are both in the NBA right now.  I agree there are current college coaches that could do just as well or better than Crean when you factor in the resources IU has.  I'd throw in Gregg Marshall as someone that I think could do just as well or better, he's won consistently everywhere he's been and has never had the resources Crean has currently.

I feel like there are only a handful of coaches out there who, if someone reached out to them about the job, wouldn't be interested in the job. With the resources available at IU I don't think we would have any trouble finding someone who could give us what we're getting from Crean at the very least. We can't just wait around and hope that Stevens decides to come here.

I just don't see Stevens leaving Boston. He's doing pretty good and ainge loves him.

He gets to coach one of the most historic NBA franchises in history. He gets summers off to spend with his family. When LeBron either really declines or retires Brad will be coaching in a wide open east. In 3-4 years he could be competing for NBA championships. He doesn't have to worry about recruiting. He doesn't have to worry about kids going to class, staying eligible, staying out of trouble, etc. His players are professionals who police themselves for the most part. He really just has to coach. I don't see him giving that up to come coach IU unless he gets homesick.

Hard pass. Even though he was set to fail in Chicago, it's honestly a lateral move for the most part.

If it's not Stevens, I'm really only interested in Dane Fife or the dude at Northwestern. Collins?

I have no idea why anyone would want Dane Fife over Tom Crean. Dane Fife didn't win at a low major, hasn't proven he could win at a mid major, let alone take one of college basketballs most demanding jobs. That hire would be extremely reckless. Keep Crean if those are our options. I do like Collins but I want our next hire to be a homerun. Fife is such a dud.

As good as a hire I think Stevens would be, I think there are many guys out there that could do as well. He was good but I have my reservations that he is as good as some talk like he is. I think he would satisfy just about every fan but there are others that might not make just about every fan happy at day one but would get the job done just fine.

Thomas and James have work to do. They currently are late first to second round picks. That means no guarantees and lots of summer league and camp work to get a roster spot.

James probably won't get picked, but he will want to leave I'd imagine. We lose tonight, we might start losing the morale of the team.

Is there really a chance Glass fires Crean after wins over UNC and Kansas? IU has played ONE conference game, albeit an ugly loss.. I'd say the seat gets hot if Crean misses the tournament or has an early exit. At this point, his job is safe I would think.

You are correct.

Fire has been learning from Izzo for the past five six years. Maybe he's the Izzo protégé that will actually pan out for championships instead of just sweet 16's ;)

Let Fife audition by running a mid-major or smaller Power 5 school like Woj and Collins are doing for the Duke job.

I'll say this enought that I should probably get it tatooed on my forehead but I don't think Brad Stevens ever coaches another college basketball game in his life.  He'll stay in the NBA; if he's dumped by Boston, another team will gladly take him on.  That's the way of pro basketball and pro football in particular.  And at some point, he moves up to a GM position.  I fully agree with Hoosierfan2017 except for his very last sentence because if he really wants to come back to Indiana, all it will take is a couple of phone calls and he'll have any number of non-basketball job offers.

I'm officially hoping to end this season with enough losses that Glass has no choice. I'm not sure it's possible but I'm hopeful

The way the Hoosiers started this game, on top of how they've been playing over the last 2 weeks, it's headed that way. There aren't enough cupcakes left to save this one.

Pack your bags, Tommy Boy... we'll show you the door.
