  1. Troy had 29 points on 8-15 FG, 4-7 3FG, 9-12 FT, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals in 24 minutes tonight. 4 turnovers.

  2. This is good discussion. The more Crean's tenure wore on, the less I saw leadership in players. After Hulls/Oladipo/Zeller/Ferrell; the only real leader I saw was Max Bielfelt. We always had leaders...just fewer and fewer. I think Crean's style really wore on kids. I think that's part of the reason he's no longer here. He had successes here and there, but the more he lost and the hotter his seat became, it seemed the more quick triggered he got. I talked recently to a former player who told me they routinely had 15+ different new offensive sets for every game; and defense was always opponent dependent (when to help, off what spot, when to zone, what zone, what BOB defense, what press, if any, etc). It has to be hard to lead on a team with no real identity and no focus. How do you lead shotgun pellets? My point is simply I'm not sure how much Crean's style played into some of these kids' ability or desire to lead. Crean is so high-strung and jittery on the sideline, I don't know how any kid could feel comfortable leading for him. Newkirk has a clean slate. Johnson, too. But this season? It's Hartman's team. The other seniors can lead by example and I'm sure they'll have other opportunities. This whole program has a much-needed fresh start, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out.

  3. Yogi dominated the 3rd quarter. Just hit a ridiculous and 1 three to beat the shot clock. Best player on the floor. Has 14-4-3-3 on 5-7 shooting in 20 minutes through 3.

  8. Dallas wins. Yogi finished with 14 points on 5-7 FG, 3-3 3FG, 1-1 FT, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and only 1 TO in 25 minutes. Really good on defense too, I think he drew 3 offensive fouls.

  9. I'm really pulling for Troy to pull it all together. He has all the tools to be a very good NBA player for a long time. If he can keep getting that 3 point shot more consistent and limit the turnovers, watch out. Good Troy was so much fun to watch at IU.

  10. Troy Williams is why Sam Dekker was expendable The Rockets’ wing showed out in Game 1 of Summer League by Ethan Rothstein@ethanrothstein Jul 8, 2017, 12:49pm CDT TWEE SH RE Sam Dekker might not have been the best piece the Rockets sent the Clippers in the Chris Paul trade, but he might have been the one whose absence would hamstring the Rockets’ depth most of all. One evening in Vegas later, and Troy Williams, whom the Rockets signed to a 10-day contract then kept for the rest of the season, showed the team might not miss Dekker at all. Williams is an athletic marvel and a not-terrible deep shooter, and he enforced his will on the Denver Nuggets’ summer league squad Friday night to the tune of 29 points on 15 shots, tossing in two steals for good measure. Williams had great chemistry with Isaiah Taylor, who dropped 10 dimes, and harangued the Nuggets on the perimeter. Williams is an overwhelming athlete not unlike K.J. McDaniels, except he’s several inches taller and by most measures a far more polished basketball player. Last year in Las Vegas, Dekker showed himself to be the best of the Rockets’ young players, and led the team with 16 points per game. The Rockets play again Saturday night against the Cavs, and Williams needs to have more than one good game to show the Rockets coaches he deserves more minutes. Dekker helped the Rockets last year with his energy and athleticism, but he struggled to shoot the three after a hot start, and once he stopped shooting well, D’Antoni stopped trusting him. Williams isn’t behind him as a shooter, but he’s ahead of Dekker already as a defender. Williams is cheaper, a year younger and a better athlete than Dekker. Even though Zhou Qi is the No. 1 player to watch on the Rockets’ Summer League roster, Williams is likely to be the guy on the team who plays the most minutes for the big club next season. Some Rockets fans might have complained about the lack of depth following a 4-for-1 deal for Chris Paul. But if Troy Williams, only 22, can keep this improvement going, he might give the Rockets an honest-to-god depth improvement over their 55-win team. That should be a scary thought for the rest of the league.

  11. Just got done watching the game. Thomas played very well. Loved that he did the exact things that are eventually going to result in a long career as a rotational big. Didn't force a thing, just did what he does. Loved it. Ball, on the other hand, whoa. Forget the shooting, that's no big deal. He could not stay in front of Kendall Marshall and couldn't beat him off the dribble in the half court. At all. Kendall Freaking Marshall. I'm not sure who he defends. Probably have to cross match him with the 2, but I'm not sure his lateral quickness holds up against a decent 2.

  12. Based on how he treats players/people in general? Nothing in that article surprises me. The guy is a great basketball mind, but also a raging hypocrite with a horrific temper. Oh, and he also once told a female reporter that if rape is inevitable, you should lay back and enjoy it.

  15. Saw a lot of this game. Typical Troy, very aggressive playing with a lot of energy. He has improved his shot which has helped him a lot. Still too many turnovers but that's part of the good Troy/bad Troy game we all know. He won't be a free agent for long.

  17. Leadership is an undervalued ability for athletes in certain sports. I believe we have several players that are being good followers that will emerge as leaders as they become upperclassmen. Davis seems more of the quiet leader that will pull a guard or wing aside and give instructions how to get him the ball. As an upperclassman I can see him having a stronger voice. Green is an interesting case because of position and playing time. I really hope he is being groomed to take over the PG position in the future. If he does I could see him becoming an extension of CAM on the floor. Durham feels like a natural born leader regardless of where he plays. He'll be the guy that bails you out of a bad situation around campus and then rip into you when you're in the clear. He might not be the most heralded recruit but he has a desire to win. These are all observations from afar. It'll be interesting to see how this develops. Watford was a quiet leader but had his moments. When he went nuts at the end of the first half vs. VCU in the round of 32 game I knew we would win. He rarely got heated but when he did it meant something.

  24. Maybe this will cause a change in how the coach and players are selected in the future. Have already seen multiple comments about Slimeball not necessarily taking the best players but rather his own recruits or kids he's trying hard to recruit. Hopefully the backlash is strong enough to bring about a genuine change in the process.

  26. Halftime. Yogi has played well but hasn't looked to score at all, has only taken 2 shots. Running the offense really well but Mavs can't hit any 3's. Probably has been the best defensive player on the court.

  29. Absolutely nothing to do with Indiana (yet), but I thought this was a good enough thread to put it in. Shammond Williams resigned from his assistant job at Western Kentucky. He is the godfather of McD All American center Mitchell Robinson and a big part of why Robinson signed at WKU (along with $tansbury). Jeff Goodman tweeted this: I have no idea if he would get released from an NLI or if Archie would want to get involved with the baggage that a $tainsbury recruit might bring. Thought I'd share it regardless because it could potentially be the last opportunity to add an impact big next year. And it's an interesting story.

  37. Honestly getting Colin to come back was more important than Rojo. I know Rojo will put up better stats, but Colin will put players in the right spot or discuss where a mistake was made. TOM CREAN FIRED

I'm torn on Crean's future. On one hand, I want him to coach somewhere so we can play his team and embarrass them. On the other, the longer he stays unemployed, the more egg the media will have on their faces for saying we made a mistake or that he got a raw deal.
