I still don’t understand how people say they aren’t paid. They are being compensated more than the average working adult! The amount provided in free education, meals, housing, transportation, coaching, training, medical etc etc adds up to a ton and way more than hard working individuals that have college degrees and work full time Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I’m ready for the season to start and as excited about any season since 2011-12. Archie has his recruits, and his players have a year under his coaching. I’m expecting big results and some beat downs like we haven’t seen in a long time.

I have yet to see any team in their midnight madness not scrimmage. Fan support is kind of important. You want to see that fan support lessen which is one thing highlighted to recruits from IU, then take away the scrimmage. Would be utterly stupid. Yeah let’s take away the one reason over 10k people show up to HH. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    Summer of 2018

What, you expect me to watch the whole thing, and then report back the exact times Al plays in a 20 minute video? Asking too much. Unreasonable.

Can't you just let us argue, rather than coming in with your information and calm demeanor? I'm with everyone that wants to see the scrimmage. It's the best part. Dunk contests miiiight be so hype, or they might be the opposite. Last year's dunk contest was embarrassing. IUGradman, you make an important point. There's room to consider the show, but don't discount that some of the old school charm is unique and attractive also. We are one of the storied programs that can pull it off, and it would be foolish to discard it entirely. Still, I get what you're saying regarding the optics of a program with pep bands and cheerleaders in sweaters. Hilarious, but also:

We all have our opinions on this matter. My opinion is that if they want to be paid to play they should be playing professionally. Should we also pay the high school players? Middle school?? Grade school??? I can't think of any other amateur endeavor where the participants get paid. I would have been thrilled for one of my sons to have been able to play the game they love and get a free college education for doing it.

How do you know? I have never seen any recruit say that. Plus it's not just for recruits. It's for the fans also. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

The no scrimmage talk worries me a little bit. I feel like that’s the only part of the event with any substance and though it’s just a light scrimmage it can give you a feel for how the team is meshing together. This coming from a younger person who doesn’t really care for the dunk contest or any of the antics. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

My opinion? If you want to get paid, don't go to college, go get paid. If you want to go to college, you'll wait to get paid.

" I got a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Statistics. I chose this major because I love identifying patterns. I decided to create this website to merge my love of sports with my love of math" ....I guess the numbers don't lie, the Hoosiers are the 3rd. best team in the country! We'll see you in January Bama!

This is more idiotic than any of the Fred Glass conversations. What in the hell does a scrimmage have to do with the other stuff? I would hate to insult the recruits by giving the paying customers what every team in the country has. Nothing like turning a crowd of over 10k into 2k for recruits if there were no basketball. But I guess you have to actually go to the event to understand it as a fan instead of being 50 living vicariously through a 16 year old. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Here's the thing though, there is nothing that says they have to go to college. They get more than just the scholarship money, the stipend, the free meals, clothes, etc. they get a chance to build their brand. That's why you don't see more kids going overseas or to the G-League from high school. That and the extra money they can get through committing to a school. How much do NBA owners make compared to what they pay their players? How much do schools make compared to what they spend on scholarships, world class facilities, top notch trainers and coaches, stipends, housing, food, transportation, etc.? IU Baseball Commits

I was talking to a returning position player a few weeks ago and had a pretty interesting conversation. It's probably not worth starting a new topic, but thought I'd share a bit for those following IU baseball. Trying to recall what he told me, but the main points were Mercer's coaching philosophy is more of a "professional baseball" approach that Lemonis. He said that there isn't much emphasis on bunting and "small ball" in general. Essentially, from what I gathered, hitters are looking to drive the ball regardless of count and situation (with some exceptions, I'm sure). Overall, there's a lot more BP, weight lifting, and emphasis on nutrition and conditioning. He said that team chemistry is good right now and that the new coaching staff has been well received by the players. Of course, it's hard to keep everybody happy during the season, so I'm sure some things will change in that regard. But, it sounds like so far, so good from his standpoint.

In terms of advanced statistics for those of us that enjoy looking at them: IU S&P+ Rank: 23 IU Off. S&P+ Rank: 52 IU Def. S&P+ Rank: 16 IU Special Teams S&P+ Rank: 96 MSU S&P+ Rank: 20 MSU Off. S&P+ Rank: 34 MSU Def. S&P+ Rank: 28 MSU Special Teams S&P+ Rank: 29 Bill Connelly gives us a 53% chance of winning this game. ESPN's Football Power Index still ranks MSU as the 13th. best team in the country and therefore only give us 21% chance of winning. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check as I had us losing this game before the season started; but with the way we've been playing and the improvement we've seen week after week, its hard not to get excited....this is just a huge opportunity for this team!

Would really like to know if there is a scrimmage or not? Me and my kids would have a 4.5 hour drive one way. We won’t make the trip unless there is a scrummage Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
