Colts / NFL Game Thread

I'll watch the Bears game. No win. No more. Too bad can't get rid of Irsay but a MUST GO is Grigson & Pagano.
Happy they got rid of Cromartie the kneeler. If they don't turn it around immediately they should change their name and start selling "Indianapolis Kneelers" shirts etc. Pathetic! Poor Andrew "Shell Shocked" Luck.
I'm ready for the HOOSIERS! Hope they have a much better season than the Kneelers......

I will agree Grigson should and must go. He is our path to our weak roster.

As a war veteran, I do not view the kneeling as disrespectful to me, or the country. I view it as a way to open conversation to help us make our living situation become better here in the USA. It is an open opportunity to create conversation on some veey unhappy circumstances.

We may get a top 5 pick that will hopefully be drafted by someone not named Ryan Grigson and coached by someone not named Chuck Pagano.

Thanks!  That helps.

Suck for Luck worked, now is it Lose for Leonard (Fournette)?

You are probably the only person to think the offensive line is decent

I guess I just think it's grown better than earlier in the year.  I think a lot of Luck's problems that we blame on the line is actually on him holding the ball too long.  A little bit of both is killing us there.

Ryan Grigson - "When you pay Andrew (Luck) what we did, it’s going to take some time to build on the other side of the ball."

YOU HAD 4 YEARS TO BUILD THE TEAM BEFORE YOU HAD TO PAY LUCK. THE SEAHAWKS ARE ONLY PAYING WILSON LIKE 2.5 MIL PER YEAR LESS  AND THEY HAVE A GREAT DEFENSE. I hate him so much.

I'm not that big of a fan of pro football or the Colts, but I do try to keep up with "background noise" about the team and I know many of you will enjoy this from Ryan Phillips at the BigLead:

Ryan Grigson is somehow still the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, despite a mountain of evidence that he should have lost his job long ago. On Friday, Grigson once again proved he’s unfit for his position when he blamed Andrew Luck’s contract for his team’s defensive woes.

Grigson said the following:

“When you pay Andrew what we did, it’s going to take some time to build on the other side of the ball.”

Hey Ryan, maybe you should have thought of that before giving Luck $139.125 million when you had massive holes littering the rest of your roster. I don’t know, just spitballing here.

Grigson’s real problem has been his horrible draft record. Other than landing Andrew Luck and T.Y. Hilton in the 2012 NFL Draft, he hasn’t selected any true impact players. You could slide Donte Moncrief, Dwayne Allen and Jack Mewhort into the discussion, but after that there is an absolute dearth of talent. Guys like Bjoern Werner, Coby Fleener, Khaled Holmes and Hugh Thornton highlight the long list of Grigson draft failures. Not to mention the fact that he shipped a first-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for Trent Richardson.

Grigson has also spent money on the wrong guys. He wasted cash on busts like Todd Herremans, LaRon Landry, Trent Cole and Donald Thomas, all of whom were or have been awful. Meanwhile, he let stud linebacker Jerrell Freeman walk this offseason without so much as a wave in his direction. For the record, Freeman is one of the NFL’s best bargains right now.

Aside from that, it’s not like it’s impossible to pay a quarterback and build a defense. The Broncos paid Peyton Manning a ton of money and managed to have one of the NFL’s best defenses. The Patriots have had outstanding defenses while Tom Brady has been under center. It’s a weak excuse by Grigson. The real problem for the Colts is poor decision-making, not Luck’s contract.

Grigson and Colts owner Jim Irsay are to blame for all of this. They can point to Luck’s massive new deal, but this has been a problem for years. It’s ridiculous to claim one player’s contract is responsible for the failings of an entire front office. This is systemic and it starts at the top. Grigson should have been fired long ago. It is stunning that he still has a job.

Grigson's comments are just the latest example of why Irsay likes having him and Pagano around.

Irsay's problem is that he isn't very smart to start with, and has only further addled his brain with extensive drug use. If you've ever listened to Grigson and Pagano talk, you know what I mean. Grigson sounds like a slightly smarter than average player. Pagano knows every football cliche known to man and can always think of one to use in any situation.

Contrast this to what we used to have. Dungy ran a very tight ship while still having the respect of his players, and is a published author. Polian was very intelligent and confident enough to think for himself, and at the same time, quite arrogant. I'm sure both of them made Irsay feel stupid on many occasions.

This is why Irsay vowed things would be different this time…and they are. Pagano is good enough to be a defensive backs coach, and Grigson is qualified to be a scout. But both of them are in way over their heads in their current positions, and this is why you get things like the Trent Richardson trade, the team looking completely unprepared week after week, cutting starters five games in, etc.

I think someday, when both of these bozos are elsewhere, we're going to think very highly of our new coach/GM combo. Not because they're amazing, but because they couldn't possibly be more incompetent than what we have now.

He has to get into game shape first. (Not that I think it'll matter whether he is in game shape or not)

That's what confuses me. He's had 4 weeks (and an entire offseason) to get into game shape. He should be ready to play
