Fitz found one of *very* few things that could ever get him fired at NW. Unreal.

“According to the former player, team members allegedly identified players for “running” by clapping their hands above their heads around that player. The practice, the player said, was known within the team as “the Shrek clap.”

The Daily obtained a video of a player clapping his hands during a game, which the anonymous player said was the same motion taken to signify “running.”

According to the player who spoke with The Daily, Fitzgerald repeatedly made the signal during practices when players, specifically freshmen, made a mistake.

The player believes some players interpreted Fitzgerald making these signals as knowingly “encouraging” the hazing to continue.

“Everyone would just be looking at each other and be like ‘bro, Fitz knows about this,’ because you wouldn’t take that action otherwise,” the player said. “Everyone joins in, because he’s the head coach.”

Yeah, and I’m sure a guy in 1of the most detail-oriented and control-freaky occupations on the planet will have the audacity to claim ignorance.

I must be missing something here.  Running because of mistakes is fine with me.

The other stuff isn't obviously.  There's no way I'm taking that naked snap or going through the carwash lol

“Running” doesn’t mean running sprints. It means getting dry humped by a bunch of naked upperclassmen according to the allegations.

Oh, I thought that was just happening before the running.  I get it now.  Eww

I found a nice chronological synopsis from NU SBNation site, https://www.insidenu.com/2023/7/9/23788442/a-comprehensive-look-at-northwestern-footballs-hazing-allegations, and it looks like the investigation took a sharp turn on 7/8 when the NU student newspaper connected two former players to Fitz having visibility to the conduct.

A lot of really unfortunate events transpired here - but I continue to be inspired by the caliber of our student journalists across the B1G.

I have to admit, when I first heard about this, I thought it was just some sensitive freshmen who couldn't take some ribbing from older players. But this is just weird and crazy behavior. Makes no sense to me what purpose this serves. Anyone who knew and allowed this to happen should be fired, in my opinion.

Pete Thamel reporting NW has fired Pat Fitzgerald.

90 days ago if you’d had to bet your house on a guy who would never be fired, you could have done a lot worse than Pat Fitzgerald. But if everything that’s out there is legit, man, it shouldn’t have been a hard call.

Sooooo…

I bet in two years he’ll be ready for rehabilitation and Indiana would be a great bounce back/revenge tour job?

(*too soon?)

The $EC has cornered the market on reclamation projects regardless of how shady or seedy they were prior.

Wild, man. That is a seriously expedited fall from grace. Even if NW has a plan (would lay down a serious sum that they don’t) that program is screwed for a good, long while.

So, what do we think, a year with Nick Saban or a “consultant” gig with the Browns?

He’ll be a defensive analyst for an NFL team or dip into darkness and hang with his kids for a while imo.
