Social media chatter for both Coach Shanahan and Coach Haines regarding the Maryland job. Kind of makes sense considering the location.

Regarding contracts for each:

Shanahan can leave with 0% buyout if for a NFL role or CFB HC position

Haines buyout is $3M. There's a % based buyout, but $3M is the total amount based on his salary

Coach Cig has made comments in the past Shanahan's goal is to become a HC and I believe Haines has said he's happy where he's at. I'd say there's a good chance Haines is to follow Cig as HC here. Just one man's opinion.

The Maryland job has to be open first. Maybe one of these days Locksley will be fired for real instead of via fake tweet.

I think you have to follow the Dolson model and hire an experienced HC if you are serious about rebuilding the program.

Cig has commented that Haines won’t move for just any job but the right situation. Idk if Maryland is that. Maybe Shanahan moves on although I’d say Cig with Bostad in collective with Shanahan is successful. Tino moved and look how that turned out. Wonder if Cig would promote Tino or another staff member as OC or hire outside?  I’m worried about others poaching Kuntz, Miller, and Cain at some point. Our staff as a whole is elite.

Maryland is a tough gig — some resources but around bottom 1/4 of the conference.  Nice practice facility but their stadium/gameday is grim.  Local recruiting ain’t easy with VT, UVA, and PSU right there.  Woof.

But, even the bottom of the B1G pays well and that job will be $6M+/year.  They will need to pay someone to take the risk of that job…

The Maryland gig is indeed really tough.  The IU gig was also really tough.

Colleges& Universities

Cig wasn’t a first year head coach though.  And I get very few impressions their AD and University president give a damn about the program.

Prior to Cig, the IUFB job SUCKED.

No, the program sucked. Huge difference. The IU job was held back by administration, but the things holding Maryland back (apathetic/frontrunning fans in a pro sports town, no money and nowhere to get any more since Under Armour is toast) were never an issue at Indiana. As Cig has proven.

Cig stated that Dolson and Whitten were a major part of the pitch that convinced him that IU was a sleeping giant.

Maryland has the resources, the facilities, and the P4 stature to also be a sleeping giant, but only if they can show coaching candidates that they are willing to do what it takes to make it happen.

We agree to disagree. They're basically the same. Maryland actually has a better overall football history. We're extremely lucky to finally get leadership from top to bottom to focus on IUFB.

Maryland's current landscape doesn't look good but make no mistake, they have a much better history than IUFB. Much much better.

Word is JuJu burned some bridges with IUFB back during his recruitment.

Probably also earned the short leash in Colorado when he accidentally put his coaching down by saying that the back ups didn’t have to learn the playbook and all he did was freelance in practice

Everything you posted is true, but Hova's point is that Maryland currently sucks, and that could continue to be an ongoing thing if their administration doesn't do a 180.

I haven't once argued otherwise.

I don't know that they have the resources since the Kevin Plank well reportedly dried up. Kinda my whole point here.

They do have a better natural recruiting ground, but other than that without proper support that job is horrendous. Especially for a first time head coach, to tie it back to the original post.
