That job stinks and would be a pretty massive jump. I’ve been saying for months that if Haines goes, he gets a high quality 2nd wave job. Tulane when Sumrall goes, JMU if Chesney goes, etc.

Remember how piping hot Kane Wommack was when he took off and he got South Alabama.

If Chesney moves up JMU seems too obvious not to happen.

You’d think. Unless the JMU athletic dept. is full of pissy patties like the fanbase and curses that whole group of guys into their graves.

It will really come down to what Haines prioritizes - right now he is one of the hottest coordinators in football (one of the favorites for the Broyles) making $2MM/yr (8th highest assistant contract in the country) at a CFP contender.  The JMU job, one of the top 3-4 G5 gigs, has Chesney at $800k/yr with less overall resources.

I could see him holding out for his ideal P4 opportunity, similar to Venables move from Clemson DC to Oklahoma HC.

Arkansas football is Indiana football circa 2023.

While a top non-P4 would be a more obvious option for immediate success, methinks Haines has seen a blueprint for downtrodden P4 program awesomeness, if the financial support is part of the hiring package.

This is the type of thinking that’s going to get a bunch of ADs and coaches fired. They’re the same in that they both sucked, but postseason 2023 Indiana had a perfect storm of circumstances, 90% of which developed by a unicorn who goes by the name of Curt, that will probably never be re-created.

I wouldn’t put that type of pressure/expectation on a guy that’s never led a program. And I think Haines has the perfect make up to be an awesome HC.

Justin Wilcox out at Cal. Given what a lousy situation Cal’s in I really don’t understand what their expectations are. Seems to me the guy did pretty well. I really don’t know who’s gonna want that job who’ll be an upgrade.

2.5 million per win.   Best contract ever lol

Not so fast my friend……

Allen won a TOTAL of 3 Big Ten games in his last three years for an eye-watering payout per BT win (plus his $15,000,000  buyout).

Does Haines want to leave though?  Does he want the HC role

We’re going to find out soon which coordinator is Cig’s successor. Whichever leaves to be a HC first is not the choice. I’d bet Haines is coach in waiting based on Cig’s comments about both coords throughout the year

Disagree. Cig has about 6-8 years left. Whoever would be the logical successor now (it's clearly Haines) will 100% be gone by then.
