That might hurt their chances at the coach at the top of their list. Accept that job without even knowing who your boss will be? It's a great position but that might make some of the candidates think twice. Of course, worst case is they don't get along with the new boss and get fired in a few years with a huge buyout, which doesn't sound too bad to me.

If that coach has enough pull, he could end up getting to say Yay or Nay on who gets the job also.

Good point, but I imagine it would have to be a very big name to have that kind of pull right after being hired.

Agree.  That plus the general dysfunction and politics around their program right now, in addition to the governor wanting to limit the contract terms/money, are all serious issues for their search.

They can talk a big game, but it's not looking great right now.  Coaches have to be wondering if they want to jump into that mess even if it's a historically top job in terms of being able to win titles.

I would normally say LSU is a top-3 job (and probably not 3), but this mess has changed my mind. Not only do you not know who your boss will be from an AD standpoint, your real boss appears to be the Governor of Louisiana. Nooooooo thanks.

In the country?

I'd take all three major FL schools over them, Bama, Georgia, Texas, and maybe Tennessee, and I haven't left the south yet.

LSU looks human now that everyone gets to pay players. I'd bet a healthy amount of money they were culprit #1 throughout the years in "we cheated but didn't get caught, losers"

LSU has a massive built-in recruiting advantage that no one else has when their coach isn’t numbnuts Brian Kelly. Coach O winning a natty at that place tells me all I need to know.

I'm not sure I see any recruiting advantage that Ohio State, Miami, Florida, Florida, Texas, and Georgia wouldn't have... and all of those states have better, MORE, HS football talent.

Louisiana is excellent, but it isn't those places.

Coach O was playing dudes left and right.

The top Louisiana kids are funneled to LSU like crazy. It’s really, really hard to get them out of the state if LSU is interested because of how insular the culture is in the state. Florida has insane amounts of talent, but it’s always a battle between the state schools and outsiders. Georgia is similar, Ohio, etc. but the way recruiting guys talk about Louisiana and LSU specifically is different.

Well, Will Wade cheated and did get caught.

if cheating permeated the entire athletic department (which I imagine it did), then I would agree that LSU was probably at the top of the list of dirty programs.

LSU has been paying players for decades. See Shaq in the early 90s and likely others before him.

Rhett Lashlee is apparently signing an extension with SMU. Seems to be a lot of that going around. Tell ya what, no idea which school it’ll be, but by the time the musical chairs are all filled in this cycle one of the power conference AD’s is gonna be rolling out a really, really underwhelming hire.

LEO, anyone?

Today marks 0 days until kickoff! Let us remember November 22, 2014 when Virginia Tech and Wake Forest slugged it out to a 0-0 score at the end of regulation. : r/CFB

P.S. Except if S. Carolina fires li'l Beamer and he jumps back to a grateful VT's arms.
