Troy Williams - Taiwan Beer (Taiwan Super League)

Recommended Posts

Troy - I sincerely apologize to you.  I'm one that suggested you have your passport ready because I could not fathom you'd ever make an NBA roster.  Congratulations and hope you have lots of success in a very long NBA career.

In six preseason games for the Grizzlies, Williams averaged 13.2 points, four rebounds and 1.7 steals in 25.4 minutes per game. He shot 52.1 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from behind the 3-point line.

After playing with Phoenix in the NBA Summer League, Williams signed a guaranteed deal for $150,000 with Memphis to come to training camp. Entering camp, Williams was expected to end up with the D-League affiliate for Memphis, the Iowa Energy.

Yep yep me too.

I will say that I was one of few that felt he had a good chance on athleticism alone and that his game was probably better for the NBA than college. 24 second shot clock and the up and down nature. The KEY was him showing he can hit the 3. That was always the factor that was limiting his potential. Well that and TOs but the NBA style better fits that aspect.

His shot mechanics on his 3 greatly improved from freshman to sophomore year. As someone else said, his shot selection was poor this past season, but it's possible that his desire to impress NBA scouts led him to take more of these bad shots. He's a respectable 3 point shooter, shot over 36% his final two years in college.

Don't really get the hate. Saying he has zero NBA skill is pretty harsh. A lot of hate directed towards him because of his mother, but the kid made a decision that he thought was best for himself and the people he cares about. No need to rip on him. Sort of a bitter-ex move to continue to do so...

Went back to see my involvement in this thread. Pat on back. I was pretty quiet early in this thread.

From Albers:  Just spoke with Troy Williams’ agent. Confirmed he has made Grizzlies roster. He is guaranteed to make $543K this year, even if sent down.

Also from Albers:  To keep Troy Williams, Memphis had to cut Jordan Adams and his guaranteed $1.465M contract. That’s how much they like him.

Earlier tweet from somebody else:  The Grizzlies bet on Troy Williams & he bet on himself. He signed a 2 year deal. Partial guarantee this year. Fully non-gtd next year.

Boo Williams on Troy Williams’ preseason: “If he would have played like that when he was at Indiana, we’d make the Final Four.”

Like how he said "we"

Interesting how he said "we." Recruiting is all about relationships. I feel pretty good we'll see more Boo Williams related recruits in the future.

But the main focus here is Troy making an NBA roster, achieving a goal of his. Hopefully this is just the beginning for Troy and he sticks in the NBA for a long time. Congrats Troy!
