Yes there was.  Crean right now is the 8th highest paid coach in America.  http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaabk/highest-paid-coaches-in-mens-college-basketball-in-2016/ss-BBr7Rmi#image=6.  Right behind Jamie Dixon and just in front of Gregg Marshall.  For those that think Gregg Marshall is any time soon going to be coaching at a high major is probably nuts.  Top ten pay at Wichita St. with a job for life.  He has it made without ever going up against the big boys.  Back to Crean though.  Vandy will not and could not come close to giving his the facilities or pay that we do for their basketball program.

I didn't realize until reading other articles that John Belein next year will be a higher paid coach than Crean.  WOW.  His new contract will kick in at $3.37 million with bonuses.  Crean might not actually be a top 10 paid coach next year.

Agreed. That's why IF he leaves, I'd feel good about it. It means IU forced him out bc they have their guy. Which is what we all want anyway.

Yes indeed.  In four or five years Coach Crean will be whipping up on Brad and the Bdevils.  That will be the long lasting series that replaces the 3 year contract with UofL.  The difference being it will be a home and home.

Leaving Indiana for Vandrbilt is not a lateral move.  It;s a downgrade by a large margin, and there's no way any coach makes this move willingly.  Vanderbilt isn't much better than Northwestern; and you don't leave a top 10 job for a place like that.   Were you serious?

I meant in a sense of fan expectations. Vanderbilt want to be the second best program in the sec and would settle for 2 conference titles in 5-8 years. I go to Tennessee a lot on business and Vandrrbilt has really built up its resources.

I wouldn't be so sure. I don't buy him going to Vandy but I don't buy him being "their guy" either. The man still hasn't got past the sweet 16. He is in the Steve Lavin UCLA territory right now. Eventually he has to get to a final four. I think he has 2 years to do it or he will be gone.

Bill Self was on the chopping block even though he was winning conference titles bc he was known as Bucknell Bill (couldn't get it done in March). He reached the end of his rope but got the run he needed and stayed. Lavin couldn't break through and got fired after 7 seasons that included a Pac10 championship, 1 elite 8, and 5 sweet 16s. 

 

If if you are an elite school and you have the consistant conference success,then a final four is required. If Crean can't reach a final four in 10 seasons at Indiana, he needs to go.

The vibe I get is outside of message boards and even on message boards the majority are happy with this growth over the last 25 years. They just want to continue growing.

So if Crean does leave for "greener pastures" on his own then no buyout is needed right? Or basically IU makes up the difference in salary of Vandy is paying less than IU? What if he makes more? Does IU get the difference? We could use that on the next coach. (This is a joke, no need to explain how it actually works)

Oh no worries. I wasn't trying to start anything, just wanted to see if one of us had information to share on this, because it does look like it's still out there.

I even checked another Vandy site and evidently the mod for their Rivals site thinks the new coach is going to be either Greg Marshall or Tom Crean.

Seems like they're really targeting Marshall first.

 I think Marshall leaving WSU is less likely than Crean leaving IU.

CTC's son has committed to play baseball at Cincy and it's a lot closer from IU to Cincy than it is from Vandy to Cincy.  Just sayin'.
