I would argue that they did not... That they put much more stock in the Gard games vs the Ryan games from earlier in the season...

 

They lost to Western Illinois (240), Georgetown (68), Oklahoma (9), Milwaukee (117), Marquette (103) under Ryan

They beat Notre Dame (42), VCU (41), & Syracuse (33) under Ryan

 

Bad Losses under Gard = @ Northwestern (72) & Nebraska (94)

while beating MSU, IU, Maryland, Iowa, & Michigan
