hoosierpap Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 #2 PG (#9 overall) visiting Sunday for the Maryland game. @EvanDaniels: Darius Garland impresses in win in front of L'Ville & Vandy | Sets Indiana visit | Story: http://www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1648563-2018-darius-garland-leads-team-title-game… At this stage, Garland claims scholarship offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Louisville, Memphis, Tennessee, Wake Forest, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Virginia. Texas, Ohio State and Connecticut have also shown interest. While it's still early, Garland said there are a handful of schools he's started to develop strong relationships with. "Of course Louisville, Vanderbilt, Ohio State, Indiana, Tennessee and Texas," he responded when asked about who he had built strong bonds with. Interesting. Heard Crean was in Nashville a few weeks back but couldn't find out who he was out there for. Guess we have our answer. HoosierAloha, lillurk and ccgeneral 3 Quote

hoosierpap Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Do believe he is up to 6-2 according to this article... http://www.scout.com/player/194436-darius-garland/analysis?year=2017 Evaluation One of the premier lead guard prospects in the 2018 class, Garland possesses good size, length and quickness for the position. Garland plays at a good pace and changes his speeds well. Garland is a quality passer that can whip pinpoint passes with either hand. Although young, Garland has already shown a strong ability to operate in pick and roll situations. The 6-foot-2 guard makes good decision coming off screens and is a threat to find an open teammate, step behind a screen and bury a shot or make a play from the mid-range area. One of Garland's biggest strengths is his ability to make shots from three. He has deep range on his shot, good shot preparation and a fairly quick release. He's also developed a comfort level from mid-range, where he's capable of connecting on pull-ups or dropping in floaters. HoosierAloha and IUsafety 2 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 5, 2016 Posted March 5, 2016 Most interesting. MaxPreps lists him at 5'10" or 5'11". If he is indeed 6'2" and only 150 lbs., a good sneeze will knock him on his arse. Quote

Popular Post hoosierpap Posted March 7, 2016 Popular Post Posted March 7, 2016 Did some digging. I was wrong in thinking IU just started recruiting him a few weeks ago. They've been on him for at least Nov of '14. Not sure how actively, but regardless. Son of Winston Garland who played PG in the NBA. Dad is from Gary and always wanted to play at IU. I think he coaches there now. Anyways, Garland transferred to Brentwood Academy but he's an Indiana boy with some Indiana parents. Hoosier Roots, Happydaze, HoosierAloha and 10 others 13 Quote

hoosierpap Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Fwiw, Stallings had a pretty good relationship with Garland. Now he's moved to Pitt. Vandy was in there initially due to distance/locality and believe Garland's Mom may work at Vandy. I'd expect interest to continue due to that but probably hurts Vandy. I'd expect Pitt to get involved. MartintheMopMan 1 Quote

HoosierAloha Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Pap, would having Durham in 2017 along with upperclassmen in Green and Jones, effect Garland at all? I know it's really early in his recruitment but wondering if you've heard anything about what is ideal situation would look like. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote
