jmsgws Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I think the top 5 teams in the B1G are pretty darn good this year. The difference is the bottom 4 or 5 teams are awful! I think you are right on in your outlook on Crean. He is certainly doing something different this year. Quote
Lt. John McClaine Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 With JBJ out, the way the team has turned it around since Maui, the evolution of the Freshmen it has to be Coach Crean. Quite honestly, he deserves it. Parakeet Jones, HoosierAloha, southsidehoosier and 2 others 5 Quote
coonhounds Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 You do realize he's made significant changes, right? He's done a few things many people were calling for him to do (quit driving the kids so hard, focus more on defense, "do what we do" which is run, space the floor, move the ball, etc), and we're better because of it. This is the first season in his 8 year tenure Indiana is better in late February than we have been at any point in the season. You have to acknowledge the whole story, here.if I may argue a small detail in that imo we were better mid to late January than we have been in February. That is when I felt we were best that includes the road win at Michigan Quote

That is when I felt we were best that includes the road win at Michigan We're not bad at the moment. I'd say save the second half at Michigan State and a lackluster final few minutes v Purdue, we've been pretty solid for a couple of weeks. We also lost to Penn State the game following Michigan. Since then? We've been pretty solid in my opinion. HoosierAloha and coonhounds 2 Quote

But have been good since but not putting complete games together. It doesn't matter just was thinking about what you thought and figured I would give my opinion. Let's hope our best is the last two cause we may need it Old Friend 1 Quote

Quite honestly, he deserves it. Not knocking Crean here, but this was supposed to be the year that Wisconsin didn't place if the top 4 even with Bo Ryan. Which is why I think Gard should and will get it. Even if they do come up a little short of a top 4 finish. Quote

That team was a wreck and Gard guided them deftly to an eventual tourney berth. Quote

The 3 home losses to bad teams were by 1,2,2. Lost by 1 at iu and lost on a last 2nd shot to Maryland. I just don't see that as being a wreck but I have no problem with others saying so HoosierAloha, Alford Bailey and 8bucks 3 Quote
Lt. John McClaine Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I respect your opinion, but I still think that Crean has earned his stripes and gets the nod over a first year Head Coach in the Conference. Quote

Brass Cannon Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 we were pretty much a mess to start conference play with the only win to hang our hat on being notre dame Very true. I'd give it to Gard though because he had less time at the helm to right the ship. Unless behind the scenes he's been running things. Which I suppose is possible. Quote

southsidehoosier Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I'll be interested to see if Gard is more of a Tom Izzo or Mike Davis Quote

Uspshoosier Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Bsnowscout Knowing B1G politics & how things go. I'd be shocked if Crean doesn't get COY. Very surprising if his fellow coaches didn't vote that way Quote

Very surprising if his fellow coaches didn't vote that way Unfortunately Snow doesn't know how politics in the Big10 work. If Crean wins one more game he should definitely get the votes, but if he doesn't it will go elsewhere imo. HoosierAloha and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote

Bowhunter Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I respect Gard being in the discussion. He has done an amazing job, however is it different than what Mike Davis did with Bob Knight's team? Gard's players have been recruited, coached, and seasoned by Bo Ryan, just sayin.
