(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS

Recommended Posts

I have no idea, but if what has been alluded to is true, that Shittu was almost locked up for Arizona before the FBI issue changed things, then I'd say it's close to being "Ole Miss Football" suspicious. We also know either UNC tried to get involved and couldn't, or something made Shittu not interested in UNC. Seems rare for a kid to shun even visiting UNC (coming immediately off a Natty) because he's so set on Vanderbilt.

I did a little digging and other classes similar to this include California's 2015 class (2 top 10 guys) and Georgia Tech's 2006 class (2 top 10 guys). I think we all wonder about Cuonzo Martin given how things played out with the Porter's, and for Georgia Tech I don't know much about it, but they were coming off a National Title Game appearance two years prior.

California was Brown and Rabb and they were close to a third because swanigan(top 20) was said to be heading to play with them

Was that Crittenton and Thad Young? Can’t remember if they were that high or that year.

I'd personally like to not give Drew or Vandy the satisfaction of even talking about them.
Why? Drew is the man. Maybe we hired the wrong miracle worker. The guy is a flat out salesman.

The Porter thing wasn't shady. His dad was a coach on the Mizzou womens basketball team and then was an assistant at Washington before Romar got fired. Porter's family all grew up at Mizzou.  It was a very smart play by Cuonzo and if he didn't do it there were many coaches lining up to hire the Porter dad. This has been done many times before and is not anywhere near as shady as hiring a guy like Kenny Johnson

His coaching background was pretty sketchy prior though. He trained his kids and did some AAU coaching (he has 8) and then got the Mizzou girls bbal opps job and later assistant job while his two oldest girls played there. Romar then hired him with that as his coaching background.

He was hired by Romar and immediately made the highest paid assistant on that staff (with zero experience coaching men's college basketball) and another assistant had to be demoted to an operations role.

To be fair, Romar and the Dad have a history together. Romar coached the father when he played for Athletes in Action.

I mean yes it's pretty obvious why he was on staff at Washington as the top assistant and why he is still the top assistant at Mizzou. I don't consider it shady though. There is nothing under the table or illegal which is where I draw the line. Harbaugh just hired a top QB's father at Michigan. KU did the same thing with Chalmers dad. Memphis hired the Lawson twins dad. SMU just hired a recruits dad and I am sure the list goes on.

As you pointed out, there are plenty of connections to Romar and to Mizzou with the Porters over the last 5-10 years. I don't see anything wrong here though with what Cuonzo did. The real problems stem from the under the table stuff which seems to be rampant in college bball and has me very suspicious of programs like ASU, Vandy, Auburn, Bama, Miami, USC etc. But that's just my opinion.

That argument annoys you probably as much as the argument that the family wanted vandy to get involved late in Romeo’s recruitment annoys me. All I pointed out was vandy has been around his recruitment for a while and this just didn’t happen overnight. Drew reaffirmed the offer right after he got the job just like CAM reaffirmed RP, Louis King, and Romeo’s right soon after he took over the job

I hear ya and that annoys me as well. I wasn't directly talking about you. You don't use it as an excuse like others. All I'm saying is relationships are important but half the time some mid power 5 school sits on these kids for years and barely ends up in top 10s lol. If Romeo wanted to come here Archie has been here long enough and has done enough is what I was meaning by that. If we lose him to Vandy it won't be because of them being on him longer or the family wanted them involved it will be strictly cause of Darius and Shittu mainly Darius. Nothing else I take pride in knowing if we get him it won't be for anything else besides he wants to be here IU and Archie will be fine.

I'm glad we don't go off topic in this thread lol
It went off topic because the same posters as always are saying Romeo to vandy is a 100 percent done deal. Basically saying its all over with. That lead to talk of how is drew getting all these top 10 guys.

I get that, but I just wish it'd be moved into it's own thread or even put in the Grey Area Recruiting thread because none of this is news relating to Romeo.

It may be well into March before he starts getting serious on a decision.

March? That'll work, leaves us plenty of time for rock solid info from masseuses and/or used car salesmen, and the holding of  the obligatory candle light vigil.

Plenty of time for other schools, including Duke, to get involved then.

If Duke gets involved it's game over but I don't think they will jump back in on Romeo. They bowed out early for a reason. I'm just not sure what that reason was.

Huh. Other big name schoolds could get in though.
