KB0 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 No one plays a similar game as Virginia. Their offense is made for sloths. You realize how slow of an offense Stevens ran at Butler, right? Quote
hoosierpap Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 His style is awfully similar to what Stevens played at Butler.. You realize how slow of an offense Stevens ran at Butler, right? Very, very generally I guess. If by similar you mean slow tempo offense, emphasis on defense...okay. But in terms of what they actually run on both ends, not similar. Quote

For example, not sure Butler broke top 200 in off tempo under Stevens. Thats coming off the top of my head though so could be incorrect. Efficiency was consistently tops in the country though. Not sure about Virginia's tempo, but their Off Efficiency is currently 12th and was 24th in 2015 and 21st in 2014. Give me a Butler or Virginia team that plays great D and values the ball. Over a team that scores 80 but turns the ball over 18-20 times a game. ALASKA HOOSIER and Dalton26 2 Quote
Feathery Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 What? Um, I think Enfield has gotten USC in the top 25 for the 1st time since dirt! He got FGCU in the Sweet Sixteen in his second year. Don't think that this record puts him in the "hot garbage" category! Yes Enfield is hot garbage for a coaching change to a program like IU. He literally has had ZERO conference success. In the Pac12 he has finished 12th, 12th, and is currently sitting at 7-5 in conference. At FGCU he finished 6th and 2nd. He got hit in March and made a run to get a promotion to USC. He will need to finish this season strong and actually win something before he should be a candidate for any historic program. biteoftheapple Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I don't think you realize just how slow Virginia. You need a new perspective. Defense and valuing the ball wins now, before, and after. Quote
Dalton26 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I don't think you realize just how slow Virginia. Who cares how slow they are as long as they are efficient? Quote
Hovadipo Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I don't think you realize just how slow Virginia. Their "slowness" produces the 12th adjusted offense in America. 2 spots ahead of... ...Indiana. 8bucks and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Brass Cannon Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 You can play a 75 possessions a game and play defense. You don't have to play 62 at possessions. It's harder. It's exhausting to go at that pace in offense then play defense. That's why guys like oladipo were so valued. mdn82 1 Quote
Uwe Robb Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Virginia is 4th lowest in the country with 9.5 TO's per game. Sometimes it helps to slow it down. ALASKA HOOSIER and MikeRoberts 2 Quote

They average 9.5 turnovers and play 62.5 possessions a game. Oklahoma Playa 75 possessions a game and turns it over 12.7 times game. It is possible to take care of the ball at a faster pace. Quote

You are the one claiming that it is not possible to do things the other way. There is not just one way to win in college basketball. MikeRoberts 1 Quote
X-Hoosier Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 And While Stevens was at Butler he actually sped up. 07-08: 62.5 possessions 08-09: 64.2 09-10: 65.3 10-11: 66.9 11-12: 66.5 12-13: 66.3 That is while the game around him was slowing way down. Tony Bennetts first 6 years at Virginia is a different story(this season is his 7th). 09-10: 65.5 10-11: 63.3 11-12: 62.5 12-13: 62.8 13-14: 62.5 14-15: 60.2 This year Virginia is averaging 62.8. Which is actually dead last in college basketball and 4 possessions a game behind our slow tempo friend Wisconsin. Quote
