RBB89 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Am I the only one who's getting pretty irritated with the student attendance? They just are simply not filling up the 7800 seats. You could see how many empty seats there were in the balcony last night. The balconies were pretty full over Christmas break when people who don't typically get to go could go, but since most of the student section is general admission now, many just don't show up if they know they will get there late and end up in the balcony (one balcony is entirely GA student seating and the other is about half alums and half students). Hell, there was even a big gap of empties behind the basket for the entire first half. It's not like they're "boycotting" Crean or something, and this is an issue at a lot of places...Bama football and UK hoops have had similar problems. We did sell over 11,000 student tickets again. But with a general public wait list, is it time to yank some seats from them if they just aren't going to show up? Thoughts? colonel06, mdn82, Tom White and 1 other 4 Quote

But with a general public wait list, is it time to yank some seats from them if they just aren't going to show up? Thoughts? 1) It is really cold 2) Freshman girls found out their Sororities yesterday 3) GA tickets were expanded to the balcony, now instead of getting guaranteed 25 rows you might be up in the balcony if you do not get there early enough. Therefore students who can't get their early would rather watch games at home or at Kilroys Don't worry the stands will be back for the end of the season for Northwestern/Iowa/Purdue/Maryland Quote
mdn82 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Yep it's ridiculous. I was there during the Davis years. Never missed a game through the good and bad. They need to open up some seats. Bobman1, IUsafety, JaybobHoosier and 4 others 7 Quote

BlueDevil Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Student section hasn't been packed since the BIG title team. Remember the very next year people in the student section asking me who was what number on the team. I just stared at them. coonhounds and BTOWN 2 Quote
Noah Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 As a student who purchased tickets this year I feel like it's the frustration with the Athletic department poorly assigning seats. I have many friends who were assigned General admission but were put up in the balcony because there wasn't enough room in the typical general admission section from last year. Many students including myself are very disappointed with how seats are distrubuted. They're selling out by giving alumni the courtside and many behind the basket seats. I'm no expert but I've always felt a team plays better with a stronger and louder student section. Just take a look at Duke and MSU two top programs with a student section surrounding the court. I've been to IU games at both Cameron and Breslin and have been in the student section with the Crazies and Izzone both times I went. IU is the exactly same when we are good (2011-2012, 2012-2013) And Both of those programs have spots reserved for donors as well court-side Quote
Chips&Dipo Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Lots of people have class at 7:00 on Tuesdays, too. As a former student, whole heartedly agree with how the Athletic department messed up the seating arrangement. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
NoahW35 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 The student section is disappointing, but the attendance on the other side has been equally as bad. I bought a balcony ticket to the Wisconsin game over break and the balcony was not anywhere close to full. As a student who attends every game (buys tickets to the games I don't get in my student package) I'd be pretty upset if my seats were taken away. I agree the students need to step up, but the other side of the court has been equally as bare Andrew_114 and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Indy and Evansville are obviously closer. Doubt too many people will come from further than Fort Wayne. FortWayneHoosier 1 Quote

A weekend game is easier for everyone to attend to and that's why you see weekend ticket prices more expensive for every team college or pros team and any sport. Quote

If you don't get there early, the best seats will be filled. That's how it works. Leaving the balcony empty is begging to have the section reduced, especially when there is a wait list. Every school has some court side seats saved for donors. Duke and MSU are no exception. It's about $$$. Also, those schools only give students about a third of the seats we give to our students, so you may not even get a ticket there. If I were in charge, I would put students behind the benches on court level and leave the other side for donors. But, I'm not. Quote

Exactly so if people know their not going to get their early, people won't go because they know they are going to be in the balcony. I was happy with the previous system. Didn't like the expanded GA section because in the balcony you don't feel like your in the "student section" Tom White and hmhernan 2 Quote

It's the state school. We went there cheaper. In the area it's mostly alum that some live Indy and some up north. Quote
