Former IU player arrested (again)

Recommended Posts

Former Indiana University basketball player and Terre Haute native Armon Bassett was arrested Wednesday in his hometown. According to Indiana court records, Bassett faces three felony charges and a misdemeanor as a result of the arrest. Bassett is scheduled to be in court for an initial hearing on the case Tuesday at 9:03 a.m.

The charges are aggravated battery (Felony 3), battery resulting in serious bodily injury (Felony 5), domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16-years-old (Felony 6) and domestic batter (Misdemeanor Class A).

According to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department was called to the Terre Haute Regional Hospital emergency room Wednesday night, where Carrie Pohlman told deputies that she had been battered by Bassett and his cousin as a result of Bassett being asked to move his belongings out due to the couple breaking up. She alleged that Bassett chased her through the house with a container of bleach and eventually poured it on her face in front of her 9-year-old son, potentially causing damage to her left eye.

Bassett said Pohlman poured bleach on him first.

According to Christian County (Ky.) Circuit Court records, Bassett was already due to face sentencing on Jan. 20 on charges of trafficking marijuana (under 8 ounces) while armed, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance not in its original container. Those charges stem from a January 2014 arrest and guilty plea last November, the Tribune-Star reports.

Bassett played at IU from 2006-2008 under Kelvin Sampson and transferred to Ohio University after Sampson resigned in 2008. He averaged 10.4 points, 3.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest in 61 career games for the Hoosiers.

Yuck.  I really liked Bassett on the court.  He led the Big Ten in 3 pt % on the same team with BTPOY DJ White and BTFOY Eric Gordon.  Had the Sampson mess not come down just before the postseason, I think that team could have done some damage in the tournament.

But..."Bassett said Pohlman poured bleach on him first."  Really??  Throw him away.

The story I heard from a former Herald-Times reporter was that Bassett agreed to transfer rather than being kicked off the team by Dakich. For the record my friend agreed with all of Dakich's moves, saying Sampson's recruits were mostly thugs.

And people complained when Dakich kicked him out.

Good, God.  Indiana needs to get this trash turned around and quickly.  Time to spend money on a coach who does his homework and can raise expectations to the level they were under Knight.  No...I don't want Knight back, but I do want his barometer back.

I miss Indiana Basketball.  Badly.

He hasn't been here in almost 10 years? What can Indiana turn around on this one?

The pattern.  They've missed on every hire for 16 years and haven't recovered from hiring Mike Davis or bowing down to Herbert and Jesse Jackson in hiring Sampson.  The pattern of failure in recruiting and coaching hires is now approaching a fifth of a century, and it's time to turn it around.   Bassett was just another fool brought in here by another coach.  The current coach has recruited his share of fools, too.

"We're here to support those players, and the coach, and this team. So, we're Indiana. They are Indiana."

Guess which delusional fan came up with this quote this week?
