New #Purdue commitment Matt Haarms is a 7-foot-2 4/5 with perimeter ability. Chose Purdue over Washington State, Vandy and Colorado.

He ain't gonna be a '4' at 7'2". Perimeter ability at that size and still zero stars on the 247 composite? That sounds like a big guy that refuses to go to the rim. I suppose the zero stars could be because he hasn't been in the US very long, though. Averaged 3.0 ppg and 2.5 rpg in a few contests with Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas last high school season. Appeared to have a few low-end power conference interests; Colorado pulled their interest when they beat Purdoodoo for Evan Battey last week.

To say that he is a "project big" would be an understatement.

To say that he is closer to Jeremiah April than Haas or Hammons coming out of high school would be far more accurate.

Well they'll need someone on their roster. Is Painter self imposing recruiting restrictions so he doesn't have to work as much? Didn't they only land one or two recruits for this season?

Edit: maybe he's saving those scholarships for Crean to use next year?

Was Groce the secret to Mattas success?

He helped build most if not all of Mattas Regular season winning teams.  And now hes building talented (albeit poorly coached teams) at Illinois.

I think you're on to something. The guys that can recruit and coach are household names.

So I guess the two of them make quite a coach.  Haha.
