Stuhoo Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 They are a Trent Frazier or Kipper Nichols transfer away from being really, really, REALLY bad this coming year. And that is a real possibility. Hope we play them twice. ElectricBoogaloo, WayneFleekHoosier, thebigweave and 1 other 4 Quote

mdn82 Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I’m happy about this. If and when they start locking down Chicago recruiting Illinois will be a beast. Not sure Underwood will be the guy to do it. He’s certainly willing to get shady as Oklahoma State recruiting indicates. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appThey have tried locking down Chicago all of my life. Only coach that came close was Bill Self. I don’t see him coming through that door anytime. If every coach is shady then it doesn’t matter if he is shady. If there is a top recruit in Chicago, both Coach K and Calipari have come in and got that recruit. He is not selling his vision well currently. Guessing he lasts two more years.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app thebigweave, Iugradman, johnsoniu and 1 other 4 Quote

Popular Post HoosierAloha Posted March 27, 2018 Popular Post Posted March 27, 2018 True, but their new addition's body is barely warm. Giorgi Bezhanishvili , 6'10" PF/C's senior year high school statistics are not even Priller-esque. More Grant Gelon-ish: 7.2 PPG 1.7 RPG 0.2 APG 0.1 blocks per game 0.8 free throws per game Best game senior year was a 15 point, 7 rebound effort. How are you 6-10 and only average 1.7 rpg (!!) in high school?! You would think at least 2 rebounds would hit you in the face at 6-10. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Iugradman, MemphisHoosier, ThompsonHoosier and 9 others 11 1 Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appIt’s weird, because if they could have kept Self they probably would have won a title. I know Kansas is Kansas, and it was closer to home for him. But you would have thought they would have backed the Brinks truck up for him, and they didn’t. They just let him walk cause they thought it was sustainable. Honestly their best bet isn’t an x and o guy. It’s someone with a recruiting reputation in Chicago. As bad as that sounds.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app chicagoHOOSIER 1 Quote

Self landing recruits out of Chicago while at Ill is surprising to nobody. I thought underwood would recruit better to Ill than he has though. I wonder if there's any blowback from the OSU stuff. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appI didn’t think he would be able to recruit as good because he came into this position scared. You can’t recruit Chicago scared. Anybody in that area will tell you how bad it is. It may just be par for the course now. The main players to come out of Chicago in the last ten years have ended up with Cal or K. If you expand to Gary then you got MSU involved there too. Honestly if he can’t get top players out of Chicago he is done. That’s why he was brought there. You should be able to compete annually with just Chicago kids. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Iugradman and HoosierAloha 2 Quote

But: Overachieving programs combine five star coaching with moderate talent, Underachieving and inconsistent programs combine unfocused, erratic, crappy coaching with high-end talent, And, the truly elite programs combine the necessary foundation of five star coaching and concepts with high-end talent. Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 In this business you don't ever let a good coach go. Not sure how some schools don't understand it. Not trying to say Crean was a good coach - he did bring good levels of success though. I think the point you just made is the exact reason he stuck around so long. In CBB, there seem to be far, far more “bad” hires than “great” hires. Patience is key until your coach lets the floor fall out from under the team as happened last year.
