ElectricBoogaloo Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Fans are weary of too little in the way of results and too much in the way of the police blotter. I think that is the line of article, but really nothing we didn't know already. He feels the heat as much as any other coach where expectations are high and results have not risen to meet them. He feels the heat as much as any other coach where expectations are high and results have not risen to meet them. Yeah, it's definitely nothing unique to Crean. I mean, for all the discussion we have of Howland there's an example. He was getting results that would be fine most places but weren't fine at UCLA. He additionally had some problems off-the-court. So, they decided to go another direction. The cost of coaching for a high-level-school is you'll have high-level-expectations, coaches are smart enough to know this when they take the job. Crean is certainly aware of the expectations placed on him and aware he has not been meeting those expectations. And whomever takes over after he is gone in a few years will be aware too. (A few years because while I do think his seat is still hot, he can delay drastic action with a good showing over the next couple of years. Enough to appease. I think short of at least a National Runner-up, he will not receive any additional extensions, and towards the end of his contract, probably end of next year, maybe 2017 at the absolute latest, he'll be let go.) Class of '66 Old Fart Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 IMO no startling revelations. His answers to questions were what I would expect. He's aware of the unrest but still sees himself as fully in charge which is what he has to portray to have any possible success on the high profile recruiting trail. I agree with Martin's assessment that barring a total collapse of the program either on-the-court or off-the-court, he's still here at least 2 more years. FortWayneHoosier and GloryDays 2 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Anyone else perturbed about Dana O'Neill picking on Creans diet Coke habit? Really had no relevance to the story. It's one of those things where we can pick on our own but it's annoying when outsiders do. Anyway Crean has the players to have a great season this year, it's next season that has me very worried. I can already hear "we're young", "we're inexperienced" "we're rebuilding" excuses being made. Never Daunted and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

I can already hear "we're young", "we're inexperienced" "we're rebuilding" excuses being made. The bigger picture is whether or not he can sustain success and win at a high level year in and year out. It is not, and should never be about one particular season. There is no question Crean can stockpile talent enough to have a very good team every few years. The questions that remain, and have not been addressed are whether or not he can get the most from his teams (I would suggest he has not done that at Indiana), and whether or not he can build depth and sustain when his teams have losses. For example, next season looks grim. If we lose just Yogi, Williams, Zeisloft, and Bielfelt (which looks like the reality), we're hurting. We lose either of Bryant or Blackmon, we're going to be flat bad. His system is what it is. He is what he is as a coach. He needs to improve, not just recognize; and I'd love it if he consistently said it's not just about one season or if someone would hold him accountable to that. I took it as he used the diet coke as a example of how busy and active crean is staying. He don't have time to even drink it cause he is so busy. We just know his quirks and it makes me more sensitive to it I suppose as rival fanbases pick on him. Also, the wording pokes fun on the QUANTITY. Almost like an absurd amount that no human being would/could consume. Either way, consensus is no harm no foul. I can live with that. My personal feeling is it was a well crafted verbal jab at a man's habits. coonhounds and Naturalhoosier 2 Quote
Alford Bailey Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 This will ultimately be good for the program. The pressure to succeed this year will: 1. Force Crean to change what hasn't been working thus making him a better coach or 2.He sticks to his philosophy the team doesn't meet expectations and everyone agrees its time to move on. How will our leader respond under pressure? BGleas, southernindianahoosier, HoosierTrav and 1 other 4 Quote
Feathery Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I fully expect Crean back for next season. Things would have to implode this season for him to get canned. I'm looking at next season as the season to make or break him. We look to be taking a dip in talent for next season. A down year and his low buyout will see him out the door. Then again, maybe he surprises us this year, win the Big Ten and makes and Final Four. We have the talent to do that. If that happens I expect Glass to give him an extension and in moronic fashion put a huge buyout in there again. Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 This should be a great year with much success. Next year is where he is going to have to work to earn his $$$$$ ! ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
