IU vs FIU Post Game Thread

Recommended Posts

I like Fant a lot in the passing game. I thought he played pretty tight coverage most of the game but he struggles to tackle along with nearly everyone else in our secondary.

He's hit or miss....and I don't like that he flaps his mouth after every plan he's close to and wags his finger like Dikembe Mutombo.   He had a nice game yesterday, but got beat a couple of times, too.   He simply needs to keep playing and keep improving.   We need him as much as a leader than anything else.

Was overall very pleased yesterday.  For Indiana, that's a quality win.  Any time they can get a win against a good group of D1 athletes is a positive step for this program, and while it gets tougher, that was a good win.   Will look forward to next Saturday...coming down for the first time this season.  How's traffic on 37 from Indy?  Anybody have a better suggestion?

I hope he does well this year, he's a really nice kid.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the student section full from bottom to top at kickoff last night. It cleared out quite a bit after halftime like usual, but at least I had a better seat for the second half.

I agree 100%.  I interviewed him back in the BTN days.  He was the most cordial and out-going interview I conducted.  Superb kid!!

Ricky Jones is really good. He's really impressing me and I was really skeptical of him coming into the season. 11 catches for 242 yards and a TD for him now.

Simmie Cobbs also just seems to ooze potential.

I completely agree. Now I'd like to see one more guy really step up. It could be Mitchell Paige or it could be one of those true freshman or even Dominique Booth if he gets healthy. But if you can have the two guys mentioned above, good tight ends like Cooper and Corsaro and then get another guy to be a solid 4-5 catch per game guy, I think the offense is really stacked

Traffic hasn't really been an issue. I tried to get there 2 hours early both games. The first one I had a small bottle neck just south of Martinsville but it broke up pretty quickly and then it was smooth sailing the rest of the way. Took me about 10 minutes longer than normal coming from the NE side of Indy.

Saturday, it was a normal drive to Bloomington as if there was no traffic. I don't think I hit my breaks. One thing that has helped is that they've left College Avenue open (and then you can take the short cut up on Dunn and ease right into the stadium area). I'm sure you knew that short cut but if you didn't it can save you 10 minutes some times. Now, see you just don't get that kind of insight at every site.

How was the crowd? I could actually hear them during the game, which was awesome to hear!

About the same, maybe a few less that Southern Illinois, at first.

Small, but mighty, in the second half.

Considering how late the game got over, I was surprised at how many people stuck around until the end.

I can't recall the last IU game I could say defense won us a game. We haven't played our best ball and are 2-0. That is very much not IU football-sequel.

Still haven't seen Tegray Scales or Chase Dutra this year. One because of a suspension and the other an injury. Scales is back this week and if he plays like last year he'll be flying around making plays. Have heard it may be another week on Dutra. They're really not saying about about what it is only that it's not something that will require surgery.

Those are two guys I can't wait to see back. They have the instincts and football IQ that just gets them to the right place at the right time, especially Dutra.

No, you don't,   =)   And yes, I do know that short cut, and many others; but that's great intel and it is appreciated.

Guys are giving the defense waaaaaayyyyy to much credit. We were tied with Florida Intl. in the fourth quarter. And they were ready to score to tie when their QB throws one in our lap. This defense still stinks.

Nope the defense played well. Go ahead and ignore the 3 turnovers and only 22 points allowed.

Being tied had more to do with our inability to score TD's on offense than anything our defense did.

I don't think we are giving the defense to much credit.  The defense gave us everything we asked of them. Were they perfect.  Heck no, but all we have asked of the defense is to not be awful.  Most of us think that our offense is good enough to win most games, as long as the defense shows up.  That is exactly what happened last Saturday.

They were far from awful this past weekend.

You talk about the one the QB threw into our lap.  Why did that happen?  Because the defense was in his face, and forced him to do something bad.  That was caused by the defense, not just a bad play by their QB.

The box xcore had 0 for penalties.  As we wer leaving the stadium, we tried to add up the penalties yards.  I believe we had 4 personal fouls (60 yards), 2 pass interferences (30 yards), at least 4 offsides (20 yards).  That was 110 yards and I know I am missing something.  That has to get better. The personal fouls are especially unacceptable. With a reasonable amount of penalties, we would not have needed a 96 yard pick 6 to end the game with a comfortable margin.

I really like Howard, Jones, and our OL.  Sudfeld can look indecisive at times and late on some throws.  He won't get away with that in conference play.  Overall he is doing what he needs to do.  I hope we can avoid injuries and start strong in conference.
