Rabb projects as a 5 in the NBA. I'm not sure how Swanigan being a 4 at Purdue is, in any way, a better situation than being a 4 at Purdue. I'd actually love for him to play the 4 at Purdue. Troy will eat him up out there on the wing.

So is Rabb projected to grow or what? Troy got near the rim last year against Purdue and then Hammons sent everything into the 10th row. I'll agree with you if he has a jump shot next year but until then they will just let him tee it up for Hammons again and again.

The difference this year is that Hammons will have to defend Bryant. Last year Purdue put Hammons on Troy, knowing we didn't have a post presence and knowing Troy wouldn't shoot it. So, Hammons just sat back in the paint and waited for him. That won't work this coming year.

I hope you're right, but couldn't Swanigan guard Bryant and we are right back in the same situation? This is all fixed if Troy can just shoot next year. Purdue was the worst matchup for last years team, and I won't be able to stand it if it happens again.

Rabb is 6' 11" tall. He reminds me so much of Zach Randolph (low post). As for Troy being contested at the rim against Hammons: you are forgetting that we now have a true big who is an effective offensive rebounder. I for one would welcome him to help off of Thomas Bryant under the rim. Troy actually shot the 3 at a very efficient clip, just not very many attempts. He's a lotto pick if he can have a VO like soph-junior year jump IMO.

Purdue wants nothing to do with Hammons wandering out on the perimeter. Thats not a good look for them.

Rabb measured 6-9.75 at Nike hoops summit. Listed as a PF by every major recruiting site that I have seen, while Swanigan is listed as a C. Both will likely have to play PF at the next level. I'm not forgetting that we have TB, I just remember how ridiculous it was that Troy drove right into Hammons and set the ball on a tee for him, over and over again. I hope they do help off of TB and I hope he makes them pay. I think Troy is very good and have always defended him, but he hasn't been the smartest player to this point. If he makes a quarter of the jump oladipo did then he's a first round pick.

Never said they did. I replied to a post about Purdue having Hammons guard Troy and sag off.

Rabb reminds you of Randolph or Swanigan does?

Not really. Then you can attack Swanigan in the post with Bryant. If they double with Hammons, then Troy flashes to the rim. If they don't double, then Bryant operates. If they double with someone else, well good luck, I'll take open 3 from Yogi, JBJ, RoJo, Zeisloft, etc.

Having Bryant changes the entire dynamic of that scenario.

Purdue make zero sense to me unless Painter changes his whole offensive scheme. Gotta be Cal or dont count out the desperate hyena in Lexington.

Disagree.

Painter is a grind-it-out coach.

Swanigan has a half-court centered skill set.

Is Swanigan that bad of a defender?

From day 1 the Purdue offense would be ran through him.

I think something that hasnt been looked at is that maybe Izzo sniffed something funky going on with Swanigan and got out of it. Kind of like the Cliff Alexander situation all over again. MSU was leading with Alexander all the way till announcement day and then Alexander had all sorts of NCAA problems during the season. Made me think of this article;

A grind it out team like Purdue with a half court motion offense would be great for bigs. I have always been a guard guy myself, that's the position I played, but if you think about the importance of a big man. A big man plays close to the basket which means higher percentage of field goals, better chance for rebounds and taking up space which makes it harder for the offenseI've team to score. So two big men on the court at Purdue will work great for Painter.

I don't always agree with Kepner but I think this is a very valid point. I was thinking the same thing. MSU does some dirty recruiting too though just not as dirty. Branden Dawson comes to mind. The Swanigan recruitment looks all kind of dirty.

Normally I'm pissed about missing on Indiana HS players but not this one. Don't trust this one at all. Kind of like Trey Lyles again.

Soooooo----what's the latest?

Purdue blogs were reporting Swanigan was supposed to visit Purdue's campus yesterday and then it was cancelled. I wonder if he was leaning Purdue and now others are trying to get into his ear-----interesting.  Not sure exactly what to make of Dakich's tweet---then apparent retraction---then reaffirming later that it was great news for Purdue. This is messed up.  I still say watch out for Cal or the UK Cayats......
