IU Hoosier41

Tom Crean Update from Fred Glass

Recommended Posts

My gut tells me Crean will be back and that Glass has deluded himself into thinking Crean is actually a good coach.  Probably have to get rid of Glass to get a new coach IMO.

And holy crap, START achieving those results?  START?  What the hell has this been, a 3 million a year trial period?  If that's the case there should be a monument built to remind people of the stupidity of that contract.

Maybe Glass will hang a banner in the Hall... SMH

If Glass thinks Crean is the man for the job, it  makes me wonder if the idiot would be able to hire a good coach in the first place. At least with another less then stellar season they both would be gone, and someone else can choose the next coach. I'm tired of this passive &%$.  Were Hoosiers people, we strive to be the best, not settle to be mediocre.

The line that meant something to me, "... based on the team he is assembling and the team he has assembled... I support Crean."

This better mean we're getting Bryant or Thon, and that Yogi and Troy are staying. I can accept that Crean is here one more year if it means getting to watch the same core lineup return with a solid big man. If that isn't happening, Crean should go now.

that line caught my eye as well. I am not super excited with next years recruits so far but get a good big man and it would be interesting to see how crean does next year. I just dont think he was referring to us getting a big recruit but we shall see

I am just glad 41 still thinks we might get a change because I am almost all out of hope for that happening. But just one poster saying maybe gives me hope lol

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.  I'm preparing for us to be stuck with Crean, while hoping he gets canned yesterday.

I have absolutely no inside information, but I think this is just one of those times where the coach is actively recruiting for both himself and IU. Our AD is trying to say all the right things to make Tom look good for his future job or jobs. There are many times where a president or AD says they support their coach and the next thing you know.... coach is gone. I think Tom will leave whether it is this year or next, and I believe it won't look like he was pushed out in any way. GLASS has the upmost respect for the Crean family as he should. TOM has done many great things for our program and I do appreciate him for that, However I believe it's time and I am hoping Crean can get either Bryant and/or Maker for IU basketball.

I'm going away from the norm here based on the things I've been told. There is a very good chance I am wrong, I just trust the input of some over others and therefore still think Crean will leave.

Leave to where? The Texas job is reportedly supposed to open up tonight, and the Alabama job is still out there, but those are really the only two schools with the money for Crean.

With his buyout, I'm sure we would agree to match the difference if he took the Martinsville Middle School opening. And, I'm not saying that's a bad job nor inferring their current coach isn't better than Crean.

This thread has become absolutely hypnotic to me. I keep trying to leave it, but I just keep coming back. It really speaks to the greatness of IU basketball. Really, how many subjects out there provoke such passion that they can provoke a full blown mass existensial meltdown from a collection of, I assume, otherwise rational adults. God, I love our team and I love our fans. We are out of our freaking minds.
But back to the point, I don't really see a connect the dots that ends in Coach leaving on his own. If he believes, and I'm confident that he does, that he has an ascending team coming back and he believes that we really are going to sign Bryant and/or Maker, then he has to believe that he has a team good enough to win a N.C. If that's true, and I don't think that's much of a stretch, does Coach really stike anybody here as the kind of guy to walk away from that? I don't see it. With the exception of Bill Frieder leaving Michigan
I can't, off the top of my head, think of an instance when a guy left a really good team at a high profile program to take on a lesser team at lower profile program. Competitors at that level just don't do that. And if Coach is nothing else, I think we can agree he is a flat out percolating competitor.
I could be completely tone deaf on this one, but I think if the AD doesn't do the deed. Coach isn't going anywhere.

Agree some others that this statement was using a lot of words to really say very little. My one big takeaway is that the expectations have been set now. Perennial contender both in the conference and nationally.

That means if we land Bryant and/or Maker and have a great year next year and Yogi/Troy/JBJ/Bryant/Maker all leave, there's still no excuses the following year. No "but we're young". We're in full reload mode.

This "reload" mode is one reason why IU will find it difficult to be a perennial contender.  All of the transfers are killing the team's depth.  I would much rather have a system like Bo Ryan has as Wisconsin.  Players stay for 4 years, but they really don't see much playing time until they are Jr or Sr.
