After watching this game, I began to wonder. Maybe the problem is not Crean. Maybe the players really are not listening to what he is telling them. At 30 or so seconds to go, he was on the sideline pleading for them to foul, and they let 10 or so seconds slip by before they did it. To me today you could really see a BIG difference in the way the 2 teams played. IU seemed to be more about getting their own shot, where Wich played off of each other. Oh well, wait till next year.

 

This is on Crean. If it's the players, it still on Crean. He recruited them. He signed them. He sees and "coaches" them every day of their life. And he continues to play them when they ignore him (if that's what is happening). It's on Crean.

Unless Thon & Bryant are there. Then there will be a top 25 preseason ranking and lines will be out the door. We can complain all we want, but the a large segment of HOOSIERS are around we are good, and disappear when we are not.

I've got plenty of traffic reports for this site that proves that theory.

Nightmare of a matchup? He is the coach that has to put his team in position to win that's coaching. The matchup is no excuse when u have the better team. I'm glad that Crean was giving the Iu job he brought us out of a bad place I just think he has taken the program as far as he ever will. Maybe no other coach would've got yogi or jbj or Troy maybe they would've got better players who knows that. I just think it's unfair to the players busting their butt to have their coach constantly getting out coached or place the blame on them when they lose.

And the next season same result.Didn't look a bit different than the sweet 16 game.We were owned by the same zone.

Yes, as I was writing this, I was thinking that it is up to the coach to motivate the players to listen to him. Some way, some how. Maybe they just aren't very smart, but I doubt that's the case. That being said. This is about where I thought we would end up this year. I really thought that we would end up nit bound. So we actually over achieved in my book.

 

Wow. That's a soft position, if I ever heard one. Just because they got to the dance when you were expecting NIT, it's no excuse to dismiss the end of the season slide (losing 10 of 15) because you didn't expect them to get this far. The point is, they did not deserve to take an NCAA tournament slot away from a more deserving team.

So making the tourney 3/4 years doesn't count? And that one year missing the tourney was after losing 2 top 5 picks and half the team? I get that making the tourney 3 out of 7 is not up to IU standards but have we already forgotten the mess of those first few years? Bottom line is we have to do better and I think with CTC we can and will do better. And how do you know we would be going to zero after next year? We have some great talent in our underclassmen and CTC is an above average recruiter. Does that all just go away?

 

The two years when we made it to the Sweet 16, we clearly underachieved. With Cody, Vic, CWat and Jordy we should absolutely have challenged for the title. The point is that Crean is mediocre at best. He may be able to recruit, but after that, he's a zero.

 

Assuming that your assessment of his recruiting ability is even remotely close to true, what then? Get the talent and waste it? Vic and Cody were special kids, and most of what they managed to accomplish, they would have found a way to do regardless of who the coach was. Jordy was a gym rat. Don't put that success on Crean. Those kids worked to earn everything they got.

 

Does the Crean thing just go away? Hopefully.

Why is everybody saying Yogi is gone? Where is he going? Leaving college early for an overseas pro career or second round no pay draft pick? He is one of the best Players IU has ever had, but not NBA caliber...yet.

That's a slap in the face to a lot of greats. Never understood yogis popularity. He whines and pouts

If his name was michael he wouldn't be as popular. My theory is that his name is involved in the psychology of his popularity

To be fair it was a bad matchup.  It's always a bad matchup when the other team runs a zone defense against us, Crean still hasn't figured out how to beat one.

i think the fact that he was on tape giving the foul sign slapping his arm like a mad man for 10 secs and the players still didn't foul give a creditable argument that in this case (no video proof on cody not listening) the players didn't listen to him

 They probably just thought he was yelling lets go, lets go like he did after every VanVleet layup throughout the game.

When the coach runs up and down the court the whole game clapping and screaming the same thing it probably gets blocked out.

Well he wasn't lying...but still does not give a good image of Crean.

A good image?? In the 7 yrs here CTC has NEVER gotten a Tech. I WISH he would take a page from the RMK book of genius coaching and get one every once in a while. A well timed tech is a way to fire up your team, your fans, and get a refs attention and reverse some bad momentum.
