In Tom Crean's Defense...

Recommended Posts

I'm more curious about another missing poster...and what he has to say...
if you are wondering who I'm talking about...well...he's #1 in some circles...

agree, I wonder the same. Saw a peegs posting referencing inside info getting out. I'm worried. Either that or him and rebel are sitting on a Hawaiian beach drinking piña coladas waiting for the Maui Invitational.

I really like Crean. I mean, he's been so misunderstood, and unjustly vilified for all the ills at Indiana. He can't be blamed for the indiscretions of youth, the game plans devised by opposing coaches, defections by malcontent players, shoddy defense, the lackadaisical approach to games by the players, or just plain bad luck.

Truthfully, he has been a beacon of hope, a ray of sunshine to our lives since his arrival, and I for one would be devastated if he left, completely beyond consolation.

Tom Crean has been a brilliant coach and tactician, and it's just so unfair to see all of this vitriol raining down on a good and honest

man.

Really feel the need for this with Mdn?

I'm trying to change and be more positive, not so derogatory, just fit in. My days of causing waves are over.

Well, your post was towards Mamasa and us mods know what's going on. In spite of everything, just leave mamasa alone!

Well said. I have nothing but respect for the man. He's done it the right way. Don't be UK fans about this, guys.

I respect the guy, he seems really nice. But to sit there and say he's done it the right way is sure sugar coating it. Half of his team has an arrest record and he's had a couple of recruiting violations. If memory serves there was even some type of sanctions levied against him. Albeit I remember them being fairly light

Edit: but that doesn't mean he deserves any disrespect

And saying "half of his team has an arrest record" is piling on. There have been 3 arrests unless I'm spacing something. Not that those, are acceptable, but this is a new occurence. And is probably adding on to the reasons he needs to go. He contacted Gary Harris a day before the recruiting period started, then self-reported it from what I've been told. Hardly something I'd hold against someone. Other than that, he restored academic integrity to a program that desperately needed it, has been a good ambassador for the school, and has made a point to preserve the tradition of IU.

I should rephrase. "For the majority of his tenure, he's done it the right way."

As head coach, he is responsible(or at least take responsibility) for all you've mentioned above. If his departure will devastate you, my condolences, but that is the world of high level athletics. Perhaps he could serve the university as a mentor where his obvious compassion for others would be well served, but great mentors do not always make great coaches, not at this level. I haven't seen examples of his brilliance with strategy or situational coaching, but that is a matter of opinion. I do wish him well in his future, wherever it may be.
