(2015) JUCO SG Mychal Mulder to UK

Recommended Posts

I have been told from a manager on the Vincennes basketball team and 2 other students who go there that all he does is party and smoke weed. Now this could be made up but I really see no reason why they would lie. I know most college kids do this as well as players on IU but I really don't want to bring a kid in who doesn't have his head on straight. Not trying to bash him but would rather see him go somewhere else

Being from VU I can tell you that there isn't a single player on that team that does not party and smoke weed.  However, that is the culture of this entire campus.  At VU the majority of the students come from rough neighborhoods and have never known any different.  Like I said, it is the culture of the campus as a whole, not saying he is a great kid or a bad kid.  Just stating some facts. Maybe he does it just to fit in with everyone else here.  Maybe not.  I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions based on a few comments from kids down here.  Do your own research or make your own assumptions based on your own thoughts and feelings.  He is a good, high ability player that could potentially help.  If the off the court issues were as bad as some have said, after an offseason we just had I would like to believe that Crean would try and stay away from those types of "bad kids" as much as possible.

Just my two cents.

I have seen this kid play on many occasions over the last two years, he can shoot, he can jump, and he can finish.  Lots of athletic ability.

Most JUCOS have problems as do bigger schools with substance abuse along with players adjusting to what is supposed to be a normal life. Can't speak for VU but one other school in their conference was rampant with drug abuse, theft, robbery and assaults on students and other athletes this year. You would be amazed at the extent that was gone to, to keep players on the floor.

I can 100% believe that.  I had some classes with some of the players on the team and it was  ridiculous what the professors would do for these athletes to keep their grades just high enough to keep them on the court. I understand that just because I have not heard it happening does not mean that it doesn't happen.

If true, I would expect to see an offer from Houston.

Allow me to summarize:

Mychal Mulder is a very talented player who can shoot the three ball.

On a personal level, he is:

Stan's replacement who parties hard and smokes weed, and who would be a good choice to stay at a house and babysit one's grandkids!!

I know the VU basketball players haven't always been the best citizens.  I went there for two years before transferring and know what they were doing in the 80's.

Maybe he does party and maybe he doesn't.  It doesn't make him a bad kid.  If there are questions about smoking pot, he will have to know that he will be tested randomly and can't have any chance of testing positive at IU.  Our pool of potential recruits would shrink considerably if we only went after kids that didn't smoke or drink.

Just the nature of the beast at JUCOS. You would be amazed at the talent on some of the teams. VU was really good this year. Mulder was the best player on the floor, still didn't see him as IU worthy but who I'm I to say.

UK Sports @BigB1ueNation
Mychal Mulder still visiting today. Has been here for 3 days. Seems to be enjoying his time

They can have him. No biggie.

The worst part of UK getting Mulder is that he is apparently not an ego driven a$s hell bent on cashing in without any intention of getting a college education.

Doesn't fit the UK narrative for most of their players.
