IU vs Michigan State

Recommended Posts

Well folks..... We aren't a good team. MSU is as bad as they've been under Tom Izzo and we got BLOWN OUT! We have to stop lifting this team and Crean up after mediocre wins against the likes of Nebraska, SMU, Pitt, and Butler. Winning @ MSU would have been a good win for 1 and 1 reason only.... It would have been a road win. I'm glad we can get off of this 3rd best in the B1G nonsense. That's what it is. This team lacks the most important attribute outside of talent IMO. Killer mentality. They get punched and they quit. They're soft. Name the last champion in anything that was soft. I'll wait.

Come on---we're not this bad every game.

We've showed toughness-----as recently as last game against Nebraska.

The problem is not that we are soft---it's that we are inconsistent.

We're soft sometimes and tough others----we've got to bring it every game.

And--by the way---this is not Izzo's worst team----they've been injured and beat up and young---I predict they will make the patented Izzo run of closing out the season strong as usual.

Please don't mistake this for a bash Tom Crean post. It is more of a question of the state of our program.

I hear people on here all the time say they will only accept competing for Big 10 championships and consistent tournament runs. It seems more and more especially this year I am hearing the argument that we are at least the 3rd best team in the conference and should make the tournament. I don't know about all of you, but I am not okay with this being where our program is. I have seen fairly quick program turnarounds recently from Texas and Maryland both having turned rosters over to establish new culture. I think this is the main thing TC gets a pass on. I also know the way the players played tonight had nothing to do with TC's coaching. Rebounding is mostly how bad you want it, and we did not want it tonight. I have not been a Tom Crean fan as of lately, but the players tonight made it very hard to blame him. Rebounding and defense need to be there every night with this team. With a team that is all shooters if we have a bad shooting night this could happen again against the likes of a Penn St or Rutgers if we don't rebound or defend better than tonight.

Rant over...

Obviously coach Crean's fault!

Well, this team had no clue what hit them. Hoosiers looked shell-shocked from the tip. Coach's job is to prepare his team. I’m not saying this loss is totally on Crean, but the team was not ready. And they quit, IMO.

Probably best to just forget this one. And burn the film.

As much as I don’t want to agree, I must. And I think we, as Hoosier fans, have to come to terms with the fact that we are no longer an elite program. IMO, the #1 ranking, and the Cody/Vic years were anomalies. I wish that this was not true, but you can’t dispute the facts.

If things don’t change in Bloomington, we will forever be a moderately good team that has the occasional pretty good year, but as it sits now, we will never again run with the likes of the Dukes, the Michigan States, or the Kentuckys.

my prediction for this game...

IU will beat the hell out of OSU...and make up for this loss...

 I bet your right.I wouldn't be a bit surprised.Probably this teams M.O.this season.

Hopefully we wont have anymore beat downs like this one.Sometimes the shots don't fall and I can live with that.

What there's no excuse for is the lazy defense displayed tonight.Coach did the right thing benching a couple of the guys and hopefully he's in their ass the next few days to let them know it wont be tolerated.

nailed it Woodson...

IU WILL go to the tournament this year...and I'm happy as a cow in clover about it...

but...

IU and Crean need to make statements about belonging...

and...yes...I do believe that is possible.

Gross loss.

Sad thing is, I'm honestly not the least bit surprised.

Our team (1st) and coach (2nd) should be embarrassed.

If I'm embarrassed, they damn well better be.

I guarantee I'd lock down my player if I was 1-13 from the floor. That guy wouldn't be able to breathe! Here's looking at you JB!

What's worse? Most players exhibited defensive apathy, even when struggling on O. Troubling signs. Very troubling.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. I look at it from the perspective that Nebraska is a garbage team who we blew a 16 point lead and barely hung on to win. Like I said, stop lifting them up for mediocrity. We are supposed to beat Nebraska Basketball. Especially a Nebraska team that lost at home to Incarnate word.

Mind. Blown.

Stop lifting them up after WINS?! What?!

I'm not saying dont celebrate a win, but for Christ's sake, our fans go into full blown delusions of grandeur after wins against mediocre teams. Loss to E. Wash.? Everyone is questioning the team and coaches abilities. Beat a Pitt team shortly after? Lets crown the damn kids and talk about how this team is a tourney team and 3rd best in the B1G. We are mediocre at best. Stop celebrating it. The kids deserve to be patted on the back after wins, but can we please set the bar higher when judging the state of our program? I'm wondering if many of the Indiana fans today ever knew what it felt like to be a winner.

people want to be hopeful. I am one of them, BUT you are exactly right. WAY too many excuses coming from WITHIN the program. Not buying the excuses anymore.

I really like Blackmon but his deficiencies are exactly what we anticipated. Weak on D. Not athletic enough to consistently finish at the rim (blocked A LOT)

Yogi, has to do it all, too often. Last night was the pinnacle. No one is helping him to score. WTH happened to Zieslofts shooting. Him going 1-5 or 1-6 feels like the norm lately.

At least Crean got the Canada trip in this year.

I don't agree with the Yogi has to do it all, too often.

I've been saying for a while that the single biggest indicator of an IU win or loss is Yogi Ferrell's shot count. If he takes 14 or more shots we lose, and if he shoots less than 14 we create enough offense to win almost any game. When he tries to do too much he kills our offense in my opinion.

Against EW, MSU, and Georgetown Yogi shot more than 14 and we lost.

He shot less than 14 against Butler, Nebraska, SMU, and Pitt and we won.

Yes he shot less than 14 against Louisville, but we didn't lose that game because of lack of offense. We scored enough to win against a good team, we just didn't defend well enough.
