I know last week Lebron was at UCLA's practice talking to Wilkes. IU needs some of that cool factor, something flashy and popular.

Do you follow IU on social media?  In the past few months they have REAALLLLY updated everything.  Lots of creative videography set to music "the kids are listening to."  There was one a few weeks ago of RoJo that copied the famous cover art of a Kendrick Lamar song that's been huge.  On the Reddit College Basketball forum fans from all over the country were talking about how cool it was.  The social media people bring in a lot of Oladipo, and feature our many NBA guys on a regular basis.  Oladipo seems to be around the program all the time.  There was a big one for the IU Twitter account reaching 1,000,000 followers that was really well done.  My favorite shows the guys hustling in practice working on closing out on defense, really cool.

UCLA will always have the LA thing going.  Let them be UCLA.  That doesn't attract everybody, and I don't want to be UCLA.  It did attract Wilkes, and that's fine.  Let's be the best Indiana.

Yes I understand what you're saying. I love IU and I think it's cool but I'm not a teenager anymore and they're not recruiting me lol. I think our social media is 10x better than it was last year though.

Im not sure how you reached that conclusion. The article doesn't say anything about NBA players recruiting players to specific schools. It's about NBA players and agents meeting with top prospects in hopes of getting them to sign with their company a few years down the line. Which, as the article states, is perfectly legal.

If I had a million dollar talent as a teenager then I would be concerned with how to get money quick too. I would probably forget a little about the love of basketball once I saw the 7 figure direct deposit.

Call it a conspiracy theory more than a conclusion.  I have a VERY hard time believing that if they are this involved this early in the process, it doesn't filter up through the recruiting?

I am just stating that I wish the NBA would keep their paws away...let kids be kids.  If you are that good, the money will be there.  Just tired of one and done....

I wouldn't mind IU using that adidas connection as much as possible. Hello, Romeo and maybe Watford? Also, the Hoosier connection with instate prospects. Hopefully, we land the best instate kids (Romeo, Anderson, Phinisee, Brooks, TJD) the next few years and IU becomes the cool program to play for again.

By blind luck, Adidas is suddenly the hot brand.  Google "adidas is cool again" and you'll see tons of articles about it from the last year.  I wouldn't know if I couldn't research it hahaha.  But yeah now NBA dudes like to show their closets full of Adidas gear.  Lucky for us, we're one of the big programs that is signed with Adidas.

Yeah I get that. Since some of these NBA players have experience playing for certain coaches I'm sure they might talk to recruits about them and share their opinions about the coaches. I just think that they're more concerned with getting the kids to be associated with their agency or brand than they are in steering kids to certain programs.

As for the NBA.. While I agree with you I don't see things changing anytime soon. Theres so much money to be made these days and it's only going to increase.

I think the transfer change could be good. It gives players a chance to transfer once without needing to sit out but any transfer after that, they would need to sit out. That's the interpretation I read at least

It's also tied to a certain GPA also, correct?

It just says "as long as they achieved a minimum GPA designed to lead the student-athlete ultimately to graduate."

Depending on the school that wouldn't be a very tough standard to meet.

IF this passes, I could see the University use this to their advantage. Take away paper classes, old exams, online classes, tutors, etc, the GPA could be a major problem.

As many have said, this is a bad rule. The only power the university could hold may be academic. A zillion bad outcomes from this free agent market idea.

Yeah I was trying to remember the minimum GPA to graduate from IU in my department and I think it was only like a 2.3 or something. With all the tutors and help they get it wouldn't be tough to do. Giving the schools more power, like you said, would be about the only way to stop the ensuing madness.
