Freshman forward Dewan Huell of the Miami men's basketball team is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after police say he attacked someone who was in his ex-girlfriend's dorm room.

Huell, 19, was arrested Tuesday by police at Florida International University, where Huell's ex-girlfriend is a student. Court records show Huell was released on $1,500 bond.

Huell was a McDonald's All-American last season at Miami Norland High. He was one of the top-rated recruits in the country. He averaged 16.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior.

Miami officials say they are still gathering information about the incident. It was unknown if Huell has an attorney.

Huell and the Hurricanes open their season at home on Nov. 11 against Western Carolina.

I'm pretty happy in general with IU BALL but we could use a little bump up in the non conference opponents. We do have a tough conference but if UNC can pull off a good non conference and then go into the ACC then we should to AS A BLUE BLOOD

It's weird how Izzo had a little recruiting dip for about 2 years where he missed on a bunch of top targets, and now all of the sudden he's back with a vengeance in the '16 & '17 classes.

That graphic shows us something we have all known and hated for a long time. When our 6th toughest game is easier than anything UofL schedules. 9 of 14 games in top 100 for them, 9 of 14 outside the top 100 opponents for us.... and UK is basically the same.

NCAA has declared Texas A&M freshman guard JJ Caldwell ineligible this season, source told ESPN. He will remain enrolled.

I did some further research and Caldwell's problem is homeschooling and an affiliation with SATCH, which stands for Sports Association of Texas for Christian Homeschoolers, founded in 2003.   Interesting article about a growing trend to home school which is in many cases just a sham to provide more time to work on basketball skills.
