AKHoosier Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 Rough call at the end of Kent State/Ohio. But Senderoff loses so that's nice. Uspshoosier 1 Quote

Now if 1 bad L turns 2 then 3 and then 4 then that’s a problem however if I’m a Michigan fan I wouldn’t freak out about a bad game at a place like Mackey Especially after a home loss! We knew back in the 90's that we wouldn't lose 2 in a row, let alone 2 in a row at home. Uspshoosier 1 Quote

johnsoniu Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 VCU- St Bonnie in a good one to finish the night. 50-46 VCU at the under 8 Big game for VCU if they want to keep their at large hopes alive. Quote

I agree UM will be ok but the past three games they have lost to MN, beat NW by 4 at home and got boat raced by PU. That being said I like the way they play and watching the skill level of their 2 bigs. I’m guessing we will soon contribute to UM getting back on track. Quote

We'll see if May can get them going again in February or if he takes the Miller/Woodson route and loses about five or six in a row. I do think that good teams are going to figure ways to exploit the amount of time they have the two seven footers on the floor at the same time. That said, what USPS said about them playing with house money goes even further -- they weren't supposed to be this good this quickly given it was a completely late rebuild. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 Penn State making a late run. Review of a play now where a foul was called on Ace Baldwin but it's pretty clear that the Iowa player hooked his arm and wouldn't let go. Have to see what they call on the replay. LOL......they say it 'stands as called'. BS. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 Ball don't lie miss for Iowa on the free throw....Penn State fouled on the ensuing possession (although it looked clean, LOL). Penn State down 1, 76-75, 53 seconds left, Iowa ball. Uspshoosier 1 Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 36 seconds left, Iowa timeout. 13 on the shot clock, Iowa ball up 1. Unless Iowa hits a three or gets a rebound, Penn State should have a shot to win or tie. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 Ace Baldwin had a wide open three with 13 seconds left, misses. Penn State rebound and inexplicably puts up an immediate off balance shot. Iowa with free throws, 2.8 seconds. Miss. Penn State rebound, time out. Clock reads 1.9 seconds but it will probably be put back to a little over two seconds. Penn State in bounds, 2.2/2.3 seconds left, have to go the length. Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 Penn State shot missed but was late anyway. Iowa hangs on. johnsoniu 1 Quote

It could be a sign of a bigger problem or just one of those stretches most teams go through. The only bad result there is the Minny one and it was on the road. The only loss by more than a couple points the whole season was last night. By comparison Illinois is 1-3 in their last 4. I am also not that high on their roster. At the beginning of the season I would’ve said rolling out a competitive squad in the B1G and making the tourney would have been a pretty good year 1 for May. That’s subjective though. Quote

Problem is most people just look at teams like Northwestern and think they are bottom of the B1G when in reality they are a good basketball team that has had some tough close losses this year. Doing a deeper dive they have been competitive in every game this year except for at Purdue which is the same as Michigan. Minny is the worst team in the B1G and they still have a NET of 104 which is still in the Q2 area for a road game. Conferences like the Acc, Big 12, Big East has teams where the top of the conference knows they are going to win game against those teams because they are really bad. Acc has 8 teams lower than Minny in the NET. Some teams at the top of the B1G have separated itself Purdue and Sparty however the rest are bunched up together where there really isn’t much separation between the rest. Protecting home court is huge and stealing some on the road is where teams will separate themselves. Michigan had already won 3 road games in the B1G @ Wisky, @Ucla and @Usc and before last night lost the other road game in OT @Minny on a last second shot from just inside half court. northwestern losses this year @purdue -17 @Michigan -4 OT Sparty-10 at home @ Penn St-4 @ Iowa-1 @ Dayton-5 N- Butler- 2 (kind of got screwed but it is what it is) Stuhoo and LIHoosier 2 Quote
IUFAN1976 Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 Of the teams that are 5-4 in the B10, IU is the worst of that group in my opinion. NW actually should be in that group, I think they are and will finish in the top half of the B10. Hornsby 1 Quote

And they execute it really well. I’d classify them more in the realm of really well coached which puts them in a position to be competitive against teams they probably shouldn’t be purely from a talent perspective. Their defense was, to me, very impressive, hard nosed and made things very tough on Ballo. He was forced into long (for him) 2s and generally looked uncomfortable at the offensive end to me. Offensively they are an absolute mess and looked like a less athletic version of us. You add a dynamic scorer like Booie, and that team is probably top3 or so this year, IMO. Quote
