An immediate transfer should be allowed when a coaching change is made or in case of hardship.

I'm not sure I agree with it in cases of coaching changes. We saw what happened when Crean took over and all the players were gone. Allowing transfers in those situations could result in mass exoduses that decimate programs for years. I don't think it would be good for college basketball.

But on the flip side, who knows what kind of talent might follow the incoming  coach if they knew they were immediately eligible.  I'm not in favor of the rule but not because of a potential mass exodous problem.

True, I didn't even consider that side of it.  And we thought roster construction was tough before... College basketball could turn into a circus if something like this passed.

I think the transfer change could be good. It gives players a chance to transfer once without needing to sit out but any transfer after that, they would need to sit out. That's the interpretation I read at least

How far would this go though?

Example - say Curtis Jones is as improved as advertised and looks like a star during the non-conference, but we're struggling and he's frustrated. Could a coach poach him at the semester break and play him immediately? I think it would open up a big can of worms and allow the rich to get richer.

Of course that could happen.  Let's keep in mind this rule would help IU more than hurt us.  We are in the group of teams that could poach good players from lesser programs.

I'm ambivalent to the rule.  I'll deal with it either way.  I generally don't like limiting the choices of these amateur athletes.  I am a little curious why we're even talking about it.  It seems like the major issues facing the NCAA right now are concerning whether basketball/football players should be compensated in a manner that is more fair for their value, and the eligibility if a player does try to profit off his own likeness.  So where did this come from?

This is what pisses me off about basketball anymore.

Duke and UK really don't have to recruit anymore.  They have the NBA sluts out doing it for them.

It's getting pretty clear what is happening in the world these days.

It's not love of basketball anymore it's how can I make money quick....

It stinks!!!!!

Im not sure how you reached that conclusion. The article doesn't say anything about NBA players recruiting players to specific schools. It's about NBA players and agents meeting with top prospects in hopes of getting them to sign with their company a few years down the line. Which, as the article states, is perfectly legal.

If I had a million dollar talent as a teenager then I would be concerned with how to get money quick too. I would probably forget a little about the love of basketball once I saw the 7 figure direct deposit.
