Ranger78 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 LOL - I don't really care. I think Iowa is good and I think Jok is a good player. If that would have happen at IU, the media would have destroyed Crean. I'm not standing up for Crean ... just pointing out the hypocrisy of it all. It was not once, but twice "LOL". maxwell, Walking Boot of Doom, mdn82 and 1 other 4 Quote

chitown hoosier Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Agree. Crean would've been killed for keeping him on the team. Is it just me or does MSU seem to have a really short team. They remind me a lot like Indianas team last year. No true center that really relies on their shooting ability. In one sequence they gave up like 5 offensive rebounds to Iowa. Although there were fouls that were net called, they just seemed out matched on the boards. mdn82 1 Quote

Ranger78 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Yes some similarities, but we didn't have anyone close to Valentine and their Coach is an upgrade. But yes, they will have some of the same issues we had last year. The kid that originally committed to them and then went to PU would have made a big difference. Quote
Ranger78 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 that's interesting... I wouldn't have thought they were leading in rebounding, but MSU is normally solid in that department. They're clearly missing an inside presence, but I'm guessing they will get it figured out. Iowa might just be that good .... Quote
incrediboy Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Iowa's won AT Purdue and AT Michigan State. They have to play AT Indiana and AT Maryland (no home game vs. Maryland). They also have IU and Purdue at home. They could very easily go 16-2 or better. Their 4-0 is certainly a lot more impressive than ours. One bright spot for us: they beat Nebraska by 11 and home, we beat 'em by 10 in Nebraska (and if we'd made free throws it would have been a blowout) Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 FWIW - HoopDirt less than scientific poll on next UNLV coach. Here are the results of this weeks poll where we asked our readers who they thought would be the choice to replace Dave Rice as the head coach at UNLV. Interestingly, Stave Lavin and Dan Majerle received the same amount of votes and tied for the top spot. Out of the large number of write in votes, New Mexico State Head Coach Marvin Menzies received the highest percentage – he got 2.9% of the overall vote, and 13.7% of the write-in vote). Steve Lavin (Former Head Coach St. John's and UCLA) 17.9% Dan Majerle (Head Coach Grand Canyon) 17.9% Reggie Theus (Head Coach Cal State Northridge) 15.8% Steve Henson (Assistant Coach Oklahoma) 12.7% Brad Underwood (Head Coach Stephen F. Austin) 7.4% Mike Brown (Former Head Coach Lakers and Cavaliers) 5.0% Todd Simon (Interim Head Coach UNLV) 4.4% Other 18.9% Leader: Marvin Menzies (Head Coach New Mexico State) 2.9% Quote

With the way they've played recently, I'd be happy with a split with them. I think for IU to contend in conference we need to defend home court, win on the road against lower tier B1G teams, and possibly steal one against a mid to upper tier team like @Iowa, @Wis, @UM, or @MSU. I would be happy with a 12-6ish, top 4 finish this season. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 (edited) Ohio State getting another beat down today at Maryland. Down 32 with 14 min. left. 80 - 40 with 10 min. left to play. Final score 100 - 65. 2 butt whippin's for OSU; love affair with Matta might be waning. Edited January 16, 2016 by Class of '66 Old Fart Walking Boot of Doom and Napleshoosier 2 Quote

rebelhoosier848891 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 What's the Matta with OSU? It sure doesn't break my heart that OSU gets whipped again. I agree with Old Fart that their fans may get tired of Matta doing so little with all the talent they have there year after year. In my book he has always been way overrated as a coach and a lot of his w's are just from talent overload on the floor. Bobman1 and Walking Boot of Doom 2 Quote
mdn82 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Dukie, what is going on with your team? There is just no intensity on that team. I feel like they have been that way the last few times I watched them play. Looks like we are headed in different directions since we played. Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Iowa and Maryland look the best to me in the Big Ten right now. We are next level with MSU and Purdue. Northwestern and Michigan are knocking on the door. Quote

Their recruiting has dropped significantly. I have to wonder if Matta's health might be part of the reason for that. Early entries have hurt them as well. As far as the "Matta doing so little with all the talent they have year after year"…look at his coaching record. He's the winningest coach in OSU history and has 4 Big Ten titles and 2 Final Fours. Crean can only dream of accomplishing as "little" as Matta hs. Dalton26, MikeRoberts and Alford Bailey 3 Quote

They currently have 4 4-star freshmen and another 4-star coming in next year so far. And they also have some solid sophomores. I said it earlier in the year, I won't be at all excited to play them in the next year or two. Bobman1, HoosierAloha, MikeRoberts and 1 other 4 Quote
