I would also argue that you don't get a tech called on you in overtime, which might have ended up costing you the game with two made FT's. Turgeon was clearly pissed and it had nothing to do with a strategic move to get calls. With that said, I thought he did a great coaching job and Maryland plays with a lot of heart.

The tech was before the end of regulation, but I agree it could have cost him the w. But think of the message it sends to his players, and by the second ot it wasn't close. Turgeon impressed me going up there and getting the win esp with Izzo all over the officials most of the game. MSU isn't very talented this year but great coaching gives them a chance every night out. Indiana use to be the same way.

I'm with you on Crean, but just to touch on this post, I live in Maryland and fans here were to run Turgeon out after this season. His seat was/is just as hot Crean's.

Double OT Maryland vs Mich St. Two telling statements. 1. Dickie V and other announcer stating how both coaches really working the officials. Coaches doing their best to win. 2. Turgeon getting T'd up with 50 secoinds left in regulation. His team was getting hosed and he let the officials know it, which has helped him get late calls. Its a thing of beauty watching two great coaches go at it knowing how important this really is. Just an awesome game! Maryland going to win afterall; big W.

I agree. I was just commenting on how some thought that we lost the GTown game simply because Crean didn't call a timeout when they went on a run. The timeout needs to be productive to be effective. Would it have been? Who knows?

we want crean to use them before we blow the entire ten point lead we had yes. I think though most true iu fans know that timeouts only kill r momentum in real life

Its getting a little cooler now after this victory, but yes following Williams not an easy gig. He has a talented team and shoukd compete for the Big championship. I bet he wishes he was still in tobacco road to give some payback.

I'm almost positive it was during the first overtime, but the argument stays the same regardless. I wish Crean would get into the refs more, so I'm in full agreement with you there. I'm a big Coach Knight fan and he played the refs like a violin sometimes and when he was under control and working them he was great. Sometimes he would loose his mind and cost the team, but in his prime he would get IU 4-6 + more FT a game. Coach Izzo is good, but he whines way too much for my liking. I thought JT3 did a good job working the refs vs IU, but not sure it effected the game much.

I think Crean has done a better coaching job this year. The use of the timeout is an interesting argument, because Knight would let some teams play through rough spots to see how they would react. I'm not sure Coach Crean was doing that vs GTown, but In hindsight a timeout when GTown cut it to 6-8 might have made a difference.

To me timeouts and working the refs are great, but playing better defense is where this team will either be good or just...well frustrating....

I'm not sure if they will ever be good enough under Coach Crean, but dissecting his every move through this journey will only lead me to drink too much.

On working the refs: hasn't our team led the country in FTA and FTM in recent years? I'm pretty sure the 2012-2013 team did.

you may want to check our stats at the Hall vs the Road. The CROWD is responsible for the home calls and razing the ref. On the road it's Creans job.

Ranger is correct too that our offense is to credit as Crean promotes driving in to traffic. It's worked in some occasions, especially at Home. Crean gets credit for that.

2012: 19th 2013: 6th 2014: 66th 2015: In progress

All teams have a home court advantage that produces additional calls, so I hope we can agree the specific benefit Assembly Hall affords our team is not substantially greater than the national average.

Ranger, very good point. Drawing fouls is definitely a goal with our dribble drive offense.

If I can conclude, working the refs in the least of my worries when it comes to Crean's deficiencies. We get plenty of calls our way from our offensive style.
