This was Tang's 4th season at KState. They just didn't pussyfoot with calling it a collaborative retirement or whatever we did.

It was a tough decision, but Mike decided to retire… for 65 days before he joined The Kings.

Tang coached in his 4th year just like Woody did.  They just fired him with 1 month left in the season to get a jump on the off season.   Their reaction speed wouldn’t have landed Dusty either.   They would have had to fired Tang at the end of his 3rd year in order for their reaction speed to land Dusty

To be fair, Tang led K-State to tournament success we haven’t sniffed in over 20 years. Woody could never. Ironically of course lost to Dusty in the E8 that year. All downhill since then.

Thamel reports “the basis for the for cause firing is language in his contract that references any activity that brings “public disrepute, embarrassment, ridicule” to Kansas State.”  

This is referencing his recent presser comments.

They are buying time to raise the $18 million or wanting to negotiate because Cronin has said a lot worse than what Tang said.
