Pulse of IUBB with Shake and OG

Recommended Posts

I'm all for OG. Seems like he has crazy athleticism and he has a great shot. Troy and Vic had the athleticism coming in but they both had to work really hard to develop a shot. Vic did pretty well, the jury is still out on Troy. With Crean's ability to develop the guards and wings, I think either one would be a great pickup, but I'd rather have OG

Just curious if you were in the same position, insider connections and attentiveness to recruiting, when Vic was being recruited and what your impression was then. This is OT, I'm honestly just curious.

No. And I don't think this is what you're even asking, but the same kind of reviews were obviously surrounding Victor. Obviously, Victor is the exception to the rule. It's VERY safe to assume OG does not have that work ethic, but can't say anyone does.

Gotcha. You're obviously very in then now so it would've been interesting to hear insider stuff from back then.

I agree with you. I'm the last person you'll see comparing anyone to Vic. I get that it's a desirable comparison, but I just don't think it can really ever be made for anyone else. Vic was truly a one of a kind player.

What have you heard from people who have seen him?
I've just heard from a lot of sources that he is legit. Iowa and Gonzaga are good ball teams that win games, I think if they are recruiting them, it says something as well

He's not bad, I'm not saying that. That isn't my argument. Shoots the ball effectively, not limited like TW or some other athletic wings are in that dept. Above average athleticism, nothing earth shattering. Kinda lost on both ends. Mediocre skill set at this point. Good kid.

I'm not bashing the kid, I'm just looking at the entirety of the situation and saying it doesn't make sense in my mind. Like I said, I'll support him here, but adding a wing would need to be a special talent for me. "Legit" could go several ways...what do you mean by that?

Interesting analysis. Doesn't sound like an instant impact player by the sounds of it. My unwavering trust in Crean on talent evaluation is a little jaded right now. However, I like what I've seen and heard about OG so far.

Pap, where do you see/or have heard that he is lost on both ends?

I feel like his injury really hindered his rating.

The "lost" stuff was mentioned more as it happens at times. Idk, I've heard that scary description before but coaching can clean that up I suppose.

Idk I'm not trying to bring down the mood over here before tomorrow or this afternoon I guess it is at this point. OG has some things to work with for sure and I hope it works out I'm just speculative given the current roster/remaining recruiting needs.

Freshmen are supposed to be "lost".

As long as they can get "found" by about midway through their sophomore year, it's all good. To get found, he needs to have ability and a great attitude.

By all accounts, OG has both.

Just from reading reviews my preference would be Shake.  However, my main desire for this class is getting a quality big.  So if my choices were:

A.  Morgan, OG, quality big

B.  Morgan, Shake, OG

C. Morgan, Shake

D. Morgan, OG

E.  Morgan, quality big

I'd take A or E.  If all we ended up with was Morgan and a quality big, then I wouldn't lose sleep over losing either guy.  If we can't get a quality big, then I'd pick Shake over OG, but what do I know.

Not too totally change the course of the discussion, but it's tough, for me at least, to answer that question without knowing who our oversign guys will be replacing. If our top 7-8 (Yogi, JBJ, Troy, Stan, Hanner, Davis, RoJo, Holt) are all staying next year, then my preference is to adding just Morgan and another big.

If we're losing any of our top 8, then that would change the discussion. We'd need some type of instant impact wing or guard. The problem is, while nice players, I'm not sure I see Shake or OG as instant impact guys. For example, OG might replace Troy in terms of style/position, but OG most likely isn't going to do that as a freshmen.

I understand your point. I too don't want to see our top 8-9 go. I also hate to drop names of guys who might leave. I just don't feel right doing that now.

In all honesty I really want Morgan, a big, and our top guys. However, we're probably going to get Shake or OG, so that changes things. I still want to keep the top rotation guys though.
