Who Will Be IU's Next Commitment

Recommended Posts

Putting this in a hot thread. Not necessarily OT:

@ChronicHoosier: Yo, @TomCrean, plz remind your players rehabbing at the hospital they're not VIP's. Cut my mom in line, missed seeing my dad before surgery.

Come on guys...

Hartman? I saw this and didn't like it, but we also don't know the situation.

I was going to say Jurkin but that doesn't seem right.

If it were me, I would focus on a 2-3 zone to force perimeter shots and keep the ball handler away from HMP. But that still has nothing to do with your ludicrous negativity.

Tell me any game where a Crean coached IU team has ever employed any zone defense with success? Do you think Boheim will give him help implimenting a zone like Bo did with our trip to Canada minus any bigs? A 2-3 zone you want to play will actually put more pressure on the 5(Hanner) as he would probably play up top in the lane. Any penetration to the middle he would be responsible for covering so how would this keep the ball handler away from him? It alsoputs more pressure on weakside rebounding where we will be weak. Just because we will be small doesn't necessarily make a zone defense the best to play. Especially since we haven't shown we can play it in the past or actually teach it. So, what other internet defenses will make IU and Hanner be successful without being negative?

Eh there are special occasions where fans should be looked at for some of the issues. Such as when some take to tweeting at recruits to star away from IU as long as Crean is here because the program is a dumpster fire. That serves as nothing but to try and sabotage the coaching staff by seeking to hurt recruiting. Of course you can argue that moron ceases to be a fan by doing something like that

IU fans are complacent compared to UK or Alabama football fans or many other universities out there. Sure there are those "special fans" with 2014 National Champs tatooed on them before its decided or poison rivals sacred trees, but it certainly hasn't hurt either of the two aforementioned schools when it comes to recruiting. With high level jobs comes high level results. You either produce or next man/woman up at these places and satisfy your fans/alumni and not blame them for recruiting. Blaming is for underachievers.

I bet if Crean called Boheim, JB would absolutely give him advice. I bet Crean is smart enough to go to the expert on the zone if he tried implementing it. And, we actually had decent success with the zone, including the games against Illinois and Michigan State: http://www.indystar.com/story/hoosier-insider/2014/01/27/indiana-illinois-zone-defense-noah-vonleh/4919849/

http://scoop.hoosiershq.com/2013/01/ius-zone-wasnt-as-bad-as-you-think/

Conveniently, I also just found a nice quote in the Scoop article about the 2-3 reducing fouls by the Hoosiers: "The zone also helped the Hoosiers because it kept them from fouling. Michigan State only shot six free throws in the game, and at no point did Indiana commit a shooting foul in the zone."

I apologize that my "Internet" defensive scheme does not satisfy your request. I'm not trying to pretend I'm some basketball genius here, clearly you are more experienced than I, but that's not what our argument was about. What you're doing is trying to discredit my previous statements by discrediting me in a completely different topic.

The topic of conversation was your absurd claim that Crean can no longer recruit at IU. Just as some can be blinded by home bias and optimism, you're blinded by less than one years worth of poor results in recruiting, during which time it was rumored that Crean was going to be bought out and replaced by Mike Woodson who was in the middle of leading the Knicks into the depths of despair. That doesn't exactly sound like a program I want to waste my one year in the NCAA on.

Crean has never once blamed the fans for anything. He's showered us with thanks and praise. As fans, we have to be aware of the power we hold. There are so many of us, we create a pretty loud message

Check out the Juwan Morgan thread---there is news that he may commit as soon as this weekend and Vandy and IU appear to be the leaders. Even though there have been several crystal ball flips to Vandy-- IU is set to have him on campus this weekend. If he makes it here --I like our chances!

Vandy has a great business school too. So our tradition as a program will have to be the edge for Morgan

So let's break it down:

Vanderbilt, #25 ranked business school, unknown basketball.

Indiana, #8 ranked business school, historic blue blood program with 5 national championships and arguable the best fans and most historic facilities.

Jerry Meyer is in a twitter exchange about Morgan. Not sure how to break it down, but Vand isn't a lock yet based on his responses. IMO

I put a lot of stock in JM's predictions, but he also knows best how to game the system, and has the most to lose from incorrect picks. A lot of his industry credibility is based on accurate predictions, not as much when he made the pick. Picking Vanderbilt now, whether he believes it or not, is a good hedging strategy.
